Just an idea, if we can snag Lance Stephenson for @ 12/yr we can secure the perimeter defender we need, add some much needed toughness...and be able to combine Asik/Parsons + picks for any of the coveted (restricted) FA's (Melo/Love/Rondo). I believe Parsons will get a contract similar to Lance so money wise it's a wash, and with Lance being a better defender he addresses our biggest weakness.

Ideal scenario: Sign Lance for 12/yr
    Trade Omer/Parsons, our 1st + 2nd to Bos for Rondo/green
Give away Lin for a 2nd + cash

We then have a young core while maintaining flexibility for next year if Rondo doesn't work out...all while dumping Lins ridiculous salary.

    Thoughts...

Each one of those line items is not realistic.

History has shown that Morey doesn't handle knuckleheads well.

I've thought of the same thing. Assuming of course we strike out on the stars like Melo or Love, I don't think he'd be such a bad alternative.

This isn't relevant to the thread, but my friend played basketball with him in Jr. High and said he was a punk.

Honestly thought he was taller lol...assumed he'd play the 3. Doesn't make sense to have 2 6' 5" starters. Valid point.

We're not getting RONDO AND GREEN for Omer and Parsons. LOL.
And $12 million dollars for a glorified role player? WTF?
I wouldn't even pay Parsons that much.

I don't think, in principle, it is quite as unrealistic as you make it out to be.

Dumping Lin on say the Jazz, Sixers or GSW (they have a large exception) by giving them our pick and Dmo, opens up about 12-13 million dollars.

12-13 million is probably market rate for Stephenson, although he is restricted, so who knows what the Pacers can and cannot spend. Would he be open to coming here? Dunno, but he certainly could do worse.

Asik, Parsons and a pick for Rondo's expiring contract is at least a somewhat enticing offer, but Boston is in a position to go any number of ways this summer. They could go young, or they could trade for Love.

    Rondo / Beverley
    Harden / Daniels
    Stephenson / (Casspi)
    Jones / Covington
    Howard / (Powell?)

I think that is a pretty good team moving forward.

    First of all-

-The Rockets dont have the cap space to make Lance or anyone else an offer so they would have to do a deal first to create that cap space.

    However.....

-If you are FIRST able to work out a deal where you get rid of Asik & Lin for no salary coming back, the Rockets could have something around 42 to 44 million on the books(making assumptions about some contracts getting not getting picked up) which can give them roughly 18 to 19 million or so in cap space.

-You could then sign Lance Stevenson BUT in order to THEN trade for Rondo under the CBA Rules I believe you are looking at the most a 5 to 6 million dollar a year deal to get Lance signed and THEN trade for Rondo which that deal would probably be something like Parsons, Jones, & Draft picks for Rondo, and have Rondo's salary slide in the remaining cap space.

However, the main trick would be signing Lance at a small enough dollar amount to fit Rondo's salary in perfectly without going over the cap in the trade.

Also dont forget you have your empty roster spot charges, and cap holds for the incoming rookies. Your probably looking at trying to offer Lance 5 to 6 million a year as opposed to 12 to 14 which is probably what its going to take to even get a meeting with his agent once free agency starts.

So hate to break it to you, but as ambitious as it might be to get accomplished, its very very unlikely to see get done... especially considering the small amount the Rockets would have to offer Lance in order to then make another deal with the remaining cap spaces since they do NOT have any other large contracts they can send in a deal to make the salaries match under CBA rules.

There are about 50 different scenarios I hope for before we get Lance on our team... and about 150 before we "snag" him for 12M/year.

One gets crucified for making $8 mil, the other someone is suggesting to pay $12mil/year?

Geez guys...ok. 10/yr. Orlando is going to throw. Rediculious $ @ Parsons regardless....if scola got 10 from us why wouldn't parsons get @ 11-12 from a struggling franchise like orlando? Lance would command about as much I would think....but as I said earlier he's shorter than I thought. A big oversight I admit, but his defense is what's going to get him a big offer somewhere.
