Agreed, but do you think he is a 3B on a World Series contending team? I like him, love his glove and HR's, and I can't be the only one that calls him 'Babyface', but he just seems like such a streaky hitter. If he can get that average hovering around .270 instead of .240, (2013, it's .258 now) I'd be really on board.
For whatever reason, I imagine Correa and Ruiz manning the left side of the infield when we are competing for the pennant. They are both 19 and both could be hitting ~ .300 (Ruiz hitting .294@Lancaster) in the majors potentially one day, whereas I seriously doubt Villar/Dominguez(23,24) will ever see .300.
I guess I'm just curios if anyone thinks we have a realistic shot at winning the AL West with Villar/Dominguez as our everyday SS/3B in 2015, 21016, etc.

matty d is finding his power stroke:grin:

that deal was so much win all around. I was just happy to get his fat-overpaid arse off the team. :)

Absolutely a starting 3B on a WS contending team. You remember the White Sox beating us in the World Series? They had a very similar 3B in Joe Crede.

Ruiz isn't likely to be a .300 hitter in the majors.

Dominguez is just 24, Villar just turned 23. No reason to think they can't continue to get better. Dominguez is 5th among all mlb 3b right now in OPS, Villar 14th among all mlb ss. I don't think there is any doubt they could man those positions on a winning team

It's a good problem to have if Ruiz is good enough to push Matty D in a few years. We can trade one of them to shore up a weakness somewhere else.

I think I state that after every hit to my buddies when we watch the game. I just can't get over it. Couldn't have worked out any better for us.

For me, Matty D's jump in BB% from 3.5% in 2012 to 7.5% this year is his most impressive improvement. He's really improving in all areas hitting-wise except a small bump in K rate.

I will take .250/20-25 hr/80 rbi and stellar defense at 3B all day every day.

That was basically last season for him and he's shown he can do a lot more than than this year. He was worth 2.4 WAR last year (solid starter range) and is on pace for ~4 WAR this season (just shy of all-star level).

His huge problem getting on-base last season really cut down the value of his power. Despite his 21HR he still had a .286 OBP and sub-.700 OPS. This year he's got a .322 OBP and .769 OPS. I think he can continue to trend upward to .800 OPS.

For fun, check out Matt Dominguez's numbers compared to Anthony Rendon's. Very similar players, really, and Rendon is only about 10 months younger. Unlike, Dominguez, Rendon is considered a future all-star prospect.

I should have just posted them:

    Dominguez: .264/.322/.447, 7.5%BB and 18.4%K, wRC+ 113
    Rendon: .271/.318/.452, 6.8%BB and 15.6%K, wRC+ 110

I have to remind myself that Dominguez has had around 500 more MLB PAs than Rendon, but given their similarity in age, that's pretty cool.

People forget that at one point Dominguez was a well regarded prospect In 2009 he was #64 in BA's rankings, and #26 in Baseball Prospectus.

In 2011 he reappeared at #81 in BA, and #80 in BP.

His offensive games has been slow to develop, but its shouldn't come as a complete shock. A player learning some plate discipline is always a realistic expectation, by no means a guarantee, but not a pipe dream either.

Are we just going to ignore his most impressive attribute? The fact that he has yet to ever change his walk up song is why I think I have pulled for him from the beginning.

I was at the game on sunday and Jose and I waived at each other, it was pretty awesome! It reminded me of hardball when the kids see Sammy Sosa, I was like a little kid again!

also i find it funny that Dexter Fowlers music is about cocaine

Yayo - Snootie Wild / Yo Gotti

It is also funny because they will have people in the crowd guess the walk up song from three choices and hearing middle aged white guys say "Yayo" is just fun.
