We get his services and the league picks up the tab. What a GM. Any chance this loophole gets closed?
One of the few leaders in the locker room. Still above average player at the end of the bench for any team. He'll be back at the vet minimum
What about sources saying it's not about the money, in other words trust from his coach and guaranteed minutes when others stink up the place?
What season were you guys watching? McHale played Cisco a TON when he was in that extended slump... he seemed to have an inexplicable level of trust in him and played him more than I thought he should at times. And that's saying a lot, considering Cisco is/was my 2nd favorite guy on this squad.
Why do you guys assume he's leaving? I think he's doing us a favor here to open up some space, and then we re-sign him to a multi-year deal at the vet min.
If he's back it will be for the minimum. He's cleaning cap space now and thats good news for Houston. And I doubt he's coming back this time.
I think the problem is that McHale picks the final 2 spots on his strict 8 man rotation out of a hat before every game.
Why the hell would Francisco Garcia re-up with the Rockets? Like many players, he was subjected to McHale's panic-moves. Oh, This Guy is en fuego? We'll play him and bench This Other Dude. Oh, This Other Dude is hitting again and This Guy cooled off? The former will now play 15 mpg and the latter will play, er, never. Whenever Garcia entered the game my wife and I would groan at the TV screen as if in collective bowel distress: "Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuugghhh, no, please no..." Garcia showed some bright spots toward the end of the season but alas, he was usurped by a D-League rookie. Now, if some other team comes calling, and if the money is right? He's gone. Which is fine. We need a more consistent bench. And the cap space.
I'm not sure I would've put Garcia in my playoff rotation, unless we were playing OKC. Love him to death (and wouldn't mind him returning for the minimum), but he and Casspi had become entirely too unreliable at that point IMO.
This is a small move, but his choice to opt out is consistent with Morey's plan to add a player like Anthony/Love or Lowry.
