It is not just for the picks it is for the cap space (of course if Carmelo wants to sign with HOU) if you trade Asik for picks and you can move Lin without paying a big cost you are trading asik + Lin for Carmelo + picks
Who is gonna back up Dwight? How does Melo solve our number one problem DEFENSE. We don't need more scoring, we need players that bring a defensive mindset and players with championship experience. Melo does not bring either of those things. He couldn't carry a knicks team to the 8th seed. For god's sake atlanta went something like 13-22 to close out the season and they still beat the knicks for the final playoff berth. And do you honestly think Melo can guard the gauntlet of power-forwards he is gonna face in the west? Dirk, LMA, Griffin, Love, Duncan, Z-Bo, that's BARBECUE chicken if melo is guarding them.
Dirk? sure, LMA? yep, Love? probably, Griffin and Duncan? doubtful, Zbo? no Guarding Dirk and LMA is more about just making them shoot where they get the ball and not letting them roll through you, if they hit, they hit. Love is fairly similar. Griffin and Duncan are probably too good at posting up, and Zbo will just boulder through. Does Melo want too is probably a better question, maybe in the playoffs, not so much in the regular season, Melo isn't a little guy, he's built like Lebron, and he seems to be pretty interested in racking up boards now which is easier out of the PF spot.
If Asik and Dwight had a hard time guarding LMA, Carmelo would get roasted. Lets not forget that Melo is at his best an average defender.
^^ Yeah, but who stops Melo? It's true Melo can't guard LMA, but it's also true that LMA can't guard Melo.
This. Its a little easier living with opposing PF's going off when Melo is dropping 25-30 back on them and making them work guarding him as well.
And yet Boris Diaw didn't "Guarding LMA" is not shutting him down, it's not letting him meander around you and get layups (ala TJones), if he shoots jumpers and hits them, it doesn't really matter who is on him, his shot is unguardable. Dirk is even more like that, since he'll basically never try and move his opponent in the post, and has an even better jump shot. Boris Diaw, who is basically the same height and frame as Melo kept LMA in check simply by using the "don't let him get layups, hope that he misses" approach, he missed a lot, sometimes he hits a lot.
If we trade for Love, would we only be able to give him a four-year extension because we gave Harden our five-year contract? If so, maybe Love doesn't want to come to Houston because we can only give him essentially the same contract he could get anywhere in free agency (with the possible exception of slightly higher percentage raises). With his injury history, this might be a real concern to him, especially since he was snubbed for the five-year contract in Minnesota.
The contract situation doesn't work like this. Love isn't getting an extension on a rookie scale deal. He is signing his 3rd contract. At the end of 2014-15, HOU can offer him 5 years.
honestly i wish we could stop talking about kevin love because i dont believe he's gonna come here through trade or free agency i would much rather go get carmelo or rondo because it wouldnt cost us parsons either way
Ya'll acting like LMA is our kryptonite that's keeping us from reaching the promise land. DESPITE him going off, those games were lost by us in the last few minutes of the 4th.
We have Rondo photoshopped, Love with Harden(usa team), can someone photoshop Melo with a Rockets Jersey because if i am not mistaken, we are in his list with teams he prefers.
Yea we need to become tougher in the paint not weaker, zbo and lowery would bring that. zbo may not run but can sure bang down low and score while brining an attitude that is truely needed.
And there is this thing some coaches sometimes do to stop a player shooting lights out, it's extremely complicated so I understand Kevin not understanding it but it's called a "double team"
I totally agree with you! DocRocket was an entertainer as well as being an insider! I ALSO eagerly await the Rise od DocRocket! ....... ....... .......
Our defense isn't disciplined enough to double LMA. (That is a direct reflection on the coaching staff) but other than Game 1 we played great defense on LaMarcus. He was just hitting ridiculous shots all series. We had a few breakdowns defending the pick and roll/pop but LaMarcus isn't the reason we lost.
Not to mention, family history might play a part too, unfortunately. Didn't his dad play for the Lakers? I had a feeling getting Love to Houston wouldn't be as easy. I think the only way we get Love would be if the situation turned out similar to Howard (does poorly with the Lakers, Kobe being Kobe, no touches, not getting involved in offense, random injury, etc). Next year, if Houston gets past 2nd round and beyond, I'm sure Love will change his mind about his opinions on Harden and Howard, listens to the little birdie in his head named McHale, and becomes the PF we all so needed badly. Best part of this would be that it's 2015 and we have a lot more flexibility and less hassle to sign Love for max.
