It's good to see Charlotte Hornets back like old times.

    Good times with Charlotte Hornets.

I don't like bobcats. It is just a ugly name.

It doesn't relate to habitation in the state, it goes back to a quote from General Cornwallis describing the area around then-Charlotte as a real "Hornet's Nest" during the revolutionary war.

The "cat" moniker is actually quite prevalent in the QC. Public transportation is called CATS, light rail is LYNX and of-course there is the Panthers. Had Bob Johnson's name been Fred Johnson and the team wasn't named after him, it would have likely been much differently received in Charlotte.

I wonder if the guy behind Hugo the Hornet will be the same guy behind Mufus?

It's gonna be so confusing in like 20 years when Charlotte fans are going thru history... Discussions about best player in team history and stiff like that are gonna be all over the place. Someone will still say it's ZO or Larry or Baron Davis...

I'm just saying the history should belong to the franchise that took part in it. It's gonna cause some major confusion for bball history geeks like me down the road.

It shouldn't be confusing, what happened/happens in the city of New Orleans it's NOLA basketball history. What happened/happens in Charlotte is CHA basketball history. Bogues, Curry, Phills, Wallace, Walker, etc ... will be CHA basketball history. Paul, Davis, West will be NOLA

Because a lot of people on the internet grew up in the 90's, and it's just nostalgia.

Yes, but it's usually the franchise that has those records. I mean, they are called "FRANCHISE RECORDS". Not city records.

Think about if Seattle got a new team and named the team the SuperSonics and got the records from the Thunder.

Kevin Durant's franchise statistics will be split between two teams even though he has only played for one franchise.

    Doesn't make sense.

NBA needs to bring back Seattle basketball ASAP.

You want to throwback to the 90s, get a team in the Northwest.

Doesn't make any sense that they award Charlotte the Bobcats so quickly a team, yet its been 6 years without basketball in a great city like Seattle, with an unbelievably wealthy ownership group ready to build a brand new arena tomorrow.

Usually isn't relevant here, when has there been a case where an NBA team germinated in one city, moved in the dark of the night to another with the name, then the original city earned a new team and eventually saw the name become available to return it to its roots? Pretty sure the current Cleveland Browns still claim Jim Brown - only difference is the NFL didn't let or Baltimore didn't want the Browns name.

Hope the background being purple does not mean the away jerseys are largely purple..

The Charlotte Hornets had a purple alternate uniform between 1994 and '97.
