I like how they didn't make Godzilla 100% savior of humanity good. Like going out of his way to protect humanity. Godzilla gives no ****s about collateral damage lol.
Saw it last night. Other than a few unrealistic holes in regards to the nukes and the fact that Godzilla was fat and had t-rex arms, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I don't understand all the complaints. I just saw it and I thought it was awesome. And I don't really consider myself a monster movie guy typically.
Yeah, didn't care for it. I really wanted to like it too, heard such good things. The story was just all fugazi. Started out cool, then just got tedious and by the end it's just like oh geez that was dumb. Really only about 2 minutes of actual Godzilla action. Lame.
There's your problem right there... your focus and expectation rested on "Godzilla action"... Have you seen the black and white original...? Because that's what this one was going for... build-up and drama with SOME Godzilla action... It wasn't going for the silliness and action of the sequels.... On the right side, I now know why Michael Bay has a career in this business and todays mainstream music sells... I keep underestimating the simple-mindedness of the American consumer....
Yeah, my focus and expectation rested on Godzilla action in a movie named Godzilla. What was I thinking. I'd much rather follow around the same guy who just magically appears everywhere there's a disaster, not really giving a damn whether he lives or dies. I'd also much rather have another main character, an alleged scientist, be dumber than a box of rocks. That was awesome. There was no build up. After the first twenty minutes it was just straight stupid.

This movie had all kinds of problems with it. It didn't work as an action film, a thriller, a suspense film, or anything of the sort. The best actor in the film is hardly in the film. The scientist was terrible, laughably bad. Cranston's son was also terrible. Did you really give a care whether he lived or not? Heck no, there was zero investment into that character. It was a poorly written, poorly acted film all around. You can make a great movie without showing the monster much but this sure wasn't it.
Watched it last night with my bestfriend. She never really appreciated any of the old Godzilla movies but she surprisingly liked this one. Hearing Godzilla make those ungodly roars gave me nerd chillz all over. BUT... They made Godzilla so FAT that I laughed at the oddest times throughout the film. 8/10
Fantastic monster film, that worked on many levels. Surprisingly solid acting and let's be real, Godzilla looked phenomenal.
Very good movie. Great pacing and fantastic soundtrack. The final battle was suitably dark and epic. Godzilla was getting his ass handed to him before Ford blew up the nest and distracted the Mutos. Even the laughable premise that Ford kept ending up where the monsters were worked. The only thing I didn't like was the Olsen twin, and that's really because I couldn't stand Full House. But a great flick overall. I'm glad that Gareth Edwards keeps getting to make action movies, because he's good at it. Too bad he can't reboot Transformers.
