This is a great post. My only concern with what you said is that Dwight was leaving LA as a free agent. Kevin Love, right now, still has one more year on his contract. Let's say he does decide he wants to compete and win and he decides to go to Houston. That is great, and he could feel free to sign here next year as a free agent, but this year the Timberwolves could trade him to Milwaukee or Toronto or Philadelphia or wherever the hell they feel like trading him. He doesn't have any kind of no trade clause does he? That means from Minnesota's standpoint, if they decide to trade him, they will only care about the best package they can get for him, not his destination.
If true I hope Chicago gets him. First all of to get him out of the conference. And also to eliminate the Bulls from the Melo sweepstakes.
I'm not sure we don't take the risk either way - having Love one season and going deep in the playoffs can be pretty convincing to get him to want to come back. If he leaves us high and dry we haven't been put in a position to pay Parsons and we get Lin and Asik off the books after next season. Huge cap space going into 2015 with a free agent list to drool over. Worth the risk if you ask me - just gotta make sure the price doesn't ruin us if the latter situation occurs.
Agreed. Rockets are in a pretty good position. Dumping Lin and Asik, keep Jones and Parsons and sign Melo/Bosh/Dirk/ZBo/Lowry = WIN Trade for Love and resign him = WIN Trade for Love and he bolts for LA use capspace for 2015 = WIN Trade for Rondo and resign him = WIN Going to be another fun offseason And then there's also scenarios for signing Bosh/
Kings are looking to trade their #8 for veteran players. I wonder if they would be interested in a deal for Asik/Parsons/Lin/#25 with the Rockets taking on their terrible contracts and Minnesota receiving expirings, #8 and Jones. That would leave the Rockets with: Beverley/Canaan Harden/Daniels nothing/Garcia Love/Thompson or Landry Dwight/Thompson or Landry The Rockets would have the MLE and BAE and to fill out the roster.
I wouldn't mind Love to the lakers, i actually would like to see them get back to the playoffs. Call me crazy all you want, but the Rockets/Lakers rivalry is awesome to watch, its just not as fun kicking their ass with them being bottom feeders.
Perhaps they won't trade anything of significance without promise of a long term relationship? You know, the type that Love doesn't care for right now?
They'll likely offer it - but LA at #7...and you have to think neither would be looking to offer much more than the pick for Love. I think they might have some argument to sell him on California vs LA but LA obviously wins out as more desirable from a marketing/life in general stand point.
Let him walk. Still gotta pull the trigger on a deal. We'll go after someone else if he does bounce. That means no extra money coming with him (Martin, Bud).
This. I hope Chicago trade for him so HOU will be Carmelo only choise (if he doesnt want to stay in NY And HOU only need to trade Asik without getting a contract in return and pay to move Lin Parsons, and Beverly continue with us and we have all our picks and the MLE
