No way Andre goes out and gives less than 100%...not only would that be completely out of character, but he'd tarnish his reputation and screw himself out of millions of dollars. And that's not even considering the fact that players of his caliber are so competitive that they can't stand playing below par.

So has anything happened since BOB "talked" to AJ?

    Thanks in advance.

Who said he would have to be a malcontent...??? All I said is he wouldn't have to go out there and give his all. Guys who aren't happy in their situation don't always work hard.

He would probably take less money to play with someone like Brady. I don't think he's worried about another big contract like you think he is.

I don't have a problem with what Dre said because he said what some of us fans think. But just the same he dumped on Bob McNair and the Texans organization. And pretty much said he doesn't trust them or the guy they brought in to coach them. I don't see how you can keep poison in the well. And he can't take back what he said... He hit send.

Yes, but in a way if AJ forces a trade, then the Texans may come out okay. Not that the Texans will go for it because they are the Texans and they don't trade their guys, but trading AJ this year means the Texans get a crapload of cap room next offseason.

In some ways the Texans are on a time limit. Next year's the last year before Watt's contract bump. Assuming a deferred huge contract for Watt, this gives the Texans about 3~4 year window where they will have Watt and Clowney at relatively bargain prices where they can add maximize their talent over a short span. After that Watt's contract likely ballons, Clowney will have his FA coming up. So the current timing window with Watt/Clowney has to be maximized, assuming the Texans are into long term planning.

AJ could issue a statement saying "I am Andre Johnson and I officially request to be traded or released" and people would still act as if the Texans booted his ass out the door.

You believe it's about Andre's will to win, and I believe it's about Andre's contract beyond next season. It's not just coincidence that his contract dispute news broke before Andre foolishly aired his dirty laundry to the media.

Let me stop disagreeing with certain bloggers on here. My bad gents , y'all are 100% correct with y'all assessments and analysis on Andre Johnson situations and the direction the Texans will take in the future.

At the end of the day Dre is either gonna show up and play 100% or he is going to officially request a trade.

I'm hoping it's just a small frustration and he gets himself ready to contribute to this team and be a leader again. If the team has any chance of trying to compete for that last wildcard spot in the AFC they need Dre.

Unless they do a new deal then it is only a matter of time before he's cut or traded.

I'm starting to fall in the "I think this is just AJ venting and it will eventually blow over" crowd. It's hard to imagine he's pissed about getting rid of Schaub/Kubiak after last season.

If I had to guess, I think he will eventually come around and be a good soldier for at least for 1 more season, then sign with a contender (assuming we aren't one) once the season is over so he can go after that ring.

At least I'm hoping that's the case. I'm not basing this on anything other than my gut feeling.

Brandon Marshall just signed a 3 year, 30 million dollar extension with the Bears. 10 million a year.

Andre's extension or next contract should put him around 8-9 million per season.

If we do extend him, it'd be great to get some cap relief until the projected salary cap increase with the next TV deal while not limiting the ability to re-up with JJ.

I think AJ plays this year, and if he does well and the team doesn't blow so much that he wants out for sure next year, we hold onto him through 2015 then cut ties 2016 to save 12MM. Small chance we give him a new deal, but still possible.

If the team bombs and AJ wants out, or if AJ doesn't produce, I suspect we trade him next offseason. Won't get much back, but we will send him to a contender in the NFC who will give him a decent chunk of guaranteed money.

I think he has no real alternative other than playing this year, of course if he holds out too long and misses too much camp, he's setting himself up for another shortened season. If that happens, he's cut next year and he can go wherever he wants for a discount rate. If he does well this season, the Texans will consider keeping him one more season before cutting him.

Marshall is 30 while Johnson is getting ready to turn 33 in July. So I don't think Dre Day will get another fat contract after this one. Im not trying to disagree with you rezdawg. But who knows Dre mught be one of the ones to defeat Ole Father Time and net yet another big contract like you suggested.
