Glad to hear you say that you haven't succumb to peer pressure! As you can see, not drinking, especially in your age group is not the norm! Most of the posters are having a hard time identifying with you, hence the various suggestions of beers that you should try. The truth is, you don't need beer to have a good time, but society has accepted it to such an extent that it sounds almost illogical for you not to drink. Some people who start drinking socially, eventually develop a vice, and what used to be an option now becomes a need, so if you're getting along fine without drinking, then it's probably prudent not to start to begin with! ....... ....... .......
I'm with the op: I don't particularly like the feeling that accompanies alcohol. By comparison, the buzz one gets from smoking weed is a very different feel, and far more preferable. I actually feel like I'm more in control of my faculties, and at the same time more relaxed, with weed vs alcohol.
I only drink on occasion and then not very much. I'm talking a glass of champagne on New Year's or a beer maybe 2-3 times a year though there were a handful of times back in HS and college where I indulged. I don't drink coffee or cokes/sodas either. I'm a plain iced tea man. All that said, I do have other vices.
The good thing about not drinking would have to be saving money. If I quit drinking cold turkey it'd easily be a $3000+ yearly raise.
It's basically true that in my line of work you have to be able to socially drink (at least wine). However-- alcohol is the nectar of the gods and don't really need a reason to drink. Your post portrays alcohol in the worst possible light and comes off like "reefer madness." I haven't gotten drunk to the point of puking in years, although I came close when the Rockets imploded. Did you have an alcoholic parent or just bad experiences at parties getting hammered on Jagerbombs?
I dont give a damn, I love those drinks. If you are out in public try a Long Island Ice Tea. I never cared for beer but will drink Stella if I am drinking beer. But overall I prefer looking like a b**** and drinking those mentioned above.
I drink maybe once a month, I can't stand the taste of beer either, I merely tolerate it to get the buzz. Because I'm such an infrequent drinker, any kind of liquor whips my a** the next morning. So many people are incapable of being social without drinking, it drives me nuts. As anyone can attest to, being the sober person around drunk people is no fun.
Where does this misconception come from? http://qz.com/171191/south-koreans-...nd-more-than-four-times-as-much-as-americans/
I know Koreans and Japanese drink like fish(Been there, done that), but that only happens in those countries. Asian Americans drink less compared to other races.
