Mario at the combine but Clowney on the field.

Clowney has more natural "athletic" talent, whereas Mario required more teaching and development.

In other words, Clowney is more "Hakeem" and Mario is more "Dwight."

Won't take anything from Flacco but there defense was really good on that Super Bowl run.

Ah so when the overall numbers disagree with your premise, you shrink the sample size till you get them to say what you want them to? Brilliant tactic, if you torture numbers enough, you can get them to say pretty much anything you want them to.

Yet his motor was still in question.

    Also, SEC>>>>ACC

Post #57 is my initial stance. Go re-read and explain where I'm inconsistent.

Williams and Clowney are very similar in athleticism but Clowney was a better player coming out of college than Williams. Williams is incredibly athletic but Clowney is a better player. I think with JJ Watt's mentoring and being able to work alongside one of the best players in the NFL, it will make a huge impact on Clowney's career.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying you are inconsistent, I'm saying you are wrong. I fully believe that you are consistently wrong on the subject.

    This is your original statement.

    1. "Clutch" is a statistical anomaly, nothing else. Take the playoff game against the Broncos for example. Flacco throws a pass up for grabs near the end of the game that should be a really easy interception, but the safety inexplicably plays the pass about as poorly as possible so it ends up being a TD.....really clutch right? However, the exact same pass 9 times out of 10 is either knocked down or intercepted causing the Ravens to lose the game...."choking" right?

    2. "throwing downfield" and "arm strength" is really the same thing and I don't disagree that Flacco is Rex Grossman 2.0 when it comes to plays where he says "F it, I'm goin deep!". While those passes happened to be caught by his guys during that one SB run, last year it lead to more interceptions than Schaub and Keenum combined. I really don't think his penchant for hail mary passes is a positive.

3."Nuts".....funny how it's called "nuts' when it happens to end well, and "poor decision making" when it doesn't.

If you look at Flacco's complete playoff stats, he's nothing special in the playoffs, if you look at his season stats, he's nothing special. The ONLY reason anyone thinks he's even a halfway decent QB is because of that one really miraculous SB run. Without that he's just another average to below average QB.

Nutz begets clutch, IMO. Schaub has little-to-none.

But it's cool, man. You're not gonna accept or admit Flacco has been clutch in the postseason. It will all be luck in your mind despite the numbers. Keep talking about one lucky hail mary while completely disregarding the other 10+ TDs he threw and the dropped ball in the endzone that would've sent BAL to the SB in '11.

    Carry on

That defense gave up over 30 points a couple of times during that super bowl run in the playoffs. They stepped up in made plays but Flacco was the one who was really good. He didn't even throw a pick in the playoffs.

That's fine. But Mario still had less red flags (if any) than Clowney. Also Mario didn't have just 3 sacks his final year so his motor wasn't as much in question as Clowney's and that's why I give Mario the edge.

And it's not like there are a lot of great passing offenses in the SEC. And Mario is one of the tops in the game at his position in the NFL so SEC vs ACC when it comes to pass rushers isn't a big deal. Just look at the top pass rushers in the NFL... Players out the SEC are not dominating in that group.

You don't have to convince me who had less questions.

I'll gladly take Mario 2.5 in Clowney. Still underachieving IMO, but I'd take a guaranteed2.5.

    Math suggests other-wise..

    Extra 3-4 sacks per season.

Sacks don't necessarily translate to wins. 2 of the top 5 teams that lead the NFL in sacks did not make the playoffs. The other 3 teams in the top 5 that lead the NFL in sacks have Brady, Brees, and Cam at their quarterback positions. Both Buffalo and St Louis were in the top 3 in sacks and both finished at the bottom of their division.

Math works in funny ways when applying it to sports.

Add it however you want, but there is a difference between Mario and a player a little better. Obviously. Just saying I want Clowney to be better not equal.. even if it's merely +0.5. Sign me up right now for 2.5.

I wouldn't say all that just yet. Let Clowney get on the field and play a few seasons before hyping him up like that. But I hope he do turn out to be exactly what you described.

Well it sure isn't hard to see Clowney's game tape and make that assumption.

Or you could check Mario's and see the big difference as well,
Or listen to the scouts, or open your eyes, or just generally stop trying to disagree to disagree?

Get off the personal attack BS, I don't come at you like that dude so don't come at me with this nonsense.

Take your cheerleading fan with you as well.

All I said is wait until the man get some real NFL tape 1st.
