I'm absolutely terrified of us trading this defensive monster. This guy is the most underrated player in the league. He is a game-changer. We need another quality big beside Dwight, and Asik is just absolutely perfect. #keepomer whos with me?
The only way I thought Omer would buy into being a member of the Rockets is to make a deep playoff run and realise his contributions are vital. The Rockets didn't make it past the first round. I'm sure he's already looking for his next destination unfortunately. I too, am petrified of how bad we will be when the mystery fouls plague Dwight and we have someone not named Asik checking into the game.
Brook Lopez KILLED Asik in the Portland series. You guys are overrating Asik like you do just about everybody on our roster
what? First of all he guarded LMA most of the time and had him contained the most. Second of all it's Robin Lopez....
Brook Lopez plays for the Nets. Yes we do over rate our players. The majority of the time, Asik played the 4, guarding LMA playing alongside Howard. To the OP, Asik is a starter, plain and simple. He is over rated, more like under used. 8.6 mil (or whatever his salary count is) isn't worth it as a backup.
No. You can't spend that much money on somebody who plays 10 to 15 minutes a game. That money would be better spent on a player who will be getting a lot more minutes. Somebody playing more minutes would have a bigger impact on the team.
Love Asik but it's like owning a restaurant that has two great chefs but nobody the wait tables and the dirty dishes are piling up in the back of the house. Asik on the Rockets another year is a misallocation of resources.
if rockets played as a team instead of iso/hero ball, they wouldnt need asik off the bench. as long as we have a good backup center for next season, im all for trading him and his big poison pill contract
IMO, Asik is overpaid as a backup or starter. Nevertheless, 12 minutes is 25% of the game. You can lose a game with sh#tty defense in 25% of the game. So, if we trade Asik, who are we getting as competent backups? Who is actually attainable? People always say to trade Asik, but they never answer this question
Asik averaged more than 27 minutes per game against Portland in the playoffs. I think the Rockets gave up too soon on the twin towers in the regular season. If Asik isn't traded, I think he will get more than 10-15 minutes per game this next season. I'm not saying that we keep Asik after next season, but if he is with the Rockets next season, he should see more minutes than he did this past season.
But you are not taking into account who the Rockets get back in return. If they get a player of Millsap's caliber from getting rid of Asik's contract, does that make the Rockets better overall? A player of Millsap's caliber would be playing 75% of the game! and not only would the team be improved when all of the starters are in, but he would help mitigate any possible lapses when some starters are resting on the bench. Asik was only playing in the playoffs as much as he did because the Rockets didn't have anybody else. Asik was their best option... and it still wasn't a good option.
Donuts to back-up Howard seems legit since his defense get better, but we should sign someone who can rebound while Howard resting - I think about something like this: Asik to Phoenix Suns Love to Houston Rockets 1st rounder (Suns), Jordan Hamilton and 2nd rounder (Rockets) to Wolves Then we trade either something (incl. one of PF's) for Dunleavy to Bulls, and we could be set.
