Millsap is not a pipe dream and is a very possible scenario. Were u on CF when someone started a thread " we need James Harden" and everybody started bashing on Op? Millsap is attainable especially if Horford comes back healthy (which he will) and move back to the 4. Asik is perfect fit for them.

Can ATL absorb the Asik contract without giving anything up? Under my assumption we'd be discussing an Asik/Millsap swap, thus putting us out of the running for Carmelo. Cyberx? lol

ATL trading Milsap is VERY real. To us? That depends who's in the deal. I think the Hawks would enjoy finally pairing Al Horford(who isn't injury prone...) with a legit starting center. Whether the Hawks think Asik is that man I dunno. Adding Milsap to the line up would be good for the Rockets though. It takes us out of the 2014 free agent sweepstakes, but we would still have a chance with the 2015 free agent sweepstakes. Rajon Rondo, David West, Goran Dragic(player option he'll likely take), Lamarcus Aldridge, and Tony Parker will all be free agents next off season. All of them in positions we desperately need help in too. Although none are likely.

Not until after the 2013/14 fiscal year ends for the Hawks at the end of June.

However, in July, Atlanta is currently looking to have somewhere between 48 and 50 million(depending on open roster charges & whatever their drafted rookies are taking up) only on their books to start the year so with a salary cap presumptively at 66 million. So at that time in theory the Hawks could trade for Asik and give up no salary in return with something like a future pick & absorb his 8.4 mil salary cap hit & still have room left to play with.

I assume that if Morey is making it known that he's opening up cap space to try and sign Melo, Atlanta would be one of the primary targets to absorb that contract, and actually can afford to GIVE something back to the Rockets of value if there is a bidding war between them and lets say Dallas.

In Lin's case, your probably going to have to GIVE BACK whatever you get, and some back to whatever team is absorbing him into their salary. Its not a knock on Lin (well kinda is), but its just how I perceive the value of his talent vs. his contract on the open trade market.

If you can get millsap for asik/jones you take that deal. Millsap is a perfect fit offensively, and he plays decent D. His contract is perfect as it expires after next year.

If you could than package our 1st/Lin/ max cash allotment for non guaranteed contracts for cap space.

    Make Parsons restricted.

Sign Lowry with available cap space and than ultimately match Parsons contract.

You are than looking at a starting 5 of 3 borderline all stars and 2 superstars.

    Lowry
    Harden
    Parsons
    Millsap
    Dwight

We would still have the mle (i believe, correct me if I'm wrong) to use on a quality bench player. Still having decent bench players in bev/dmo.

To me that's championship level talent and team.

If a Asik for Millsap trade happen
I think Rocket will trade Lin +Jones +25 ( or something like this) for Rondo (finally he is on the block)

    so

    Rondo/Beverly
    Harden/Daniels
    Parsons
    Millsap
    Howard

And I believe we still have the MLE to improve the bench

Was going to post this same scenario. If I'm Morey you gauge interest from Melo, Dirk, Bosh, and Lebron (gotta try). If nothing looks good then this is the path you pursue.

    yes! milsap would be great!

aside from getting melo or love, this is actually my realistic/dream offseason:

    1) asik/clippers second rounder/blazers second rounder for milsapp

WHY for us?: sap is a rare combination of tools. he can hit the 3 (great next to dwight), attack off the dribble or in transition (good fit for our style) and can really play defense!

WHY for them?: horford is unhappy at C and the hawks have been trying to find a center good enough to allow him to move to PF. asik and horford would be a really formidable pair for interior D and on the boards. asik isn't the player that sap is but the low picks should be enough to get it done. plus we have 4 second round picks next year and can afford to use some to get a deal like this.

    2) lin/(casspi-garcia-covington)/$3M cash/canaan/wolves second rounder for lowry/novak

WHY for us?: Lowry is a player who can contribute on both ends, and be our 3rd star, although parsons and sap will make a strong case for that job too. what a starting 5!

WHY for them?: on the books lin's $8M expiring would be good when trading lowry from his new contract (presumably around the same amount as lin). he also sells tickets which they would like. canaan and a wolves pick would become a modest, but desent return for lowry. better than letting him leave for nothing. however, paying lin $15M next year would be a deal breaker. so, we give them $3M which brings lins cost down to $12M. then in a separate deal we send our non-guaranteed contracts over there for novak, they cut those guys (or keep covington as part of their return for lowry) and save another $3.5M. that basically brings lin's cost down from $12M to $8.5M which is pretty much what his cap hit is for the one year until he's off the books. financially and talent-wise it's a fair trade for a guy who could leave for nothing anyway.

    ROSTER:
    dwight-dmo
    sap-tj
    parsons-25th pick or MLE/BAE signing
    harden-daniels
    lowry-bev

super strong starting 5. bench looks weaker than it is. i have faith in TJ and DMO. daniels is a great shooter but bev will get all the minutes behind lowry and harden.

    anyway, one can hope.

Well all I can say is we have some leverage now... with all these teams who want to trade with us.

Your right as in we can't likely make a trade centered around lin and Lowry. But a Lin/1st/cash package can result in the necessary cap space in order to sign Lowry outright in free agency.

It has been posted and talked about multiple, multiple times about Lowry admitting he made a immature mistake and respects McHale and wish he could have learned more from him. Totally indicating a future reconnection is possible.

Yea, i think you definitely have to do your due diligence and explore all options, stars and superstars first. Including giving LeBron a call. But ultimately this is the most realistic and would be a fantastic off season.

The only factor that will determine whether or not Lowry's coming back is the size of the check that Les is willing to write in comparison to that of Toronto's.

I like the idea of Millsap a lot more after watching the Atlanta VS Indiana series. He can shoot the 3 ball much better than TJones.

If we can get rid of lin, asik, caspi I think that will free us atleast 17 million....im ok with milsap..then just sign battier and another lights out shooter to go along with troy daniels or try to draft adrien payne who is 6'10"who also happened to shoot 42.3 percent from behind the arc.

I don't have the link but Lowry has recently stated that he wished it hadn't ended with McHale as it did. He regrets not being more open to learning to him.

Someone will post the quote I am sure. IMO it sounded like Lowry was kind of angling to come back.

I am on board with adding Milsap and Lowry. Add Corey Brewer as well.

    Howard/Motiejunas
    Milsap/Jones
    Brewer/Parsons
    Harden/Daniels
    Lowry/Bev
