Millsap has one Year left on his contract just like Asik

And I don't want to waste another Year of Prime Howard by playing Jones or DMO,they are terrible

Wow. To go from being a candidate for best point guard in the league to not worth Asik and Lin in a couple of years. That is a steep decline.

The quote also says Lin is untradeable. If that's true, trading Asik for cap space is a non-starter (not to mention trading both still isn't enough for Melo unless he's willing to take a pay cut).

If the goal is Melo, the only viable solution I see is an S&T for Melo with Lin/Asik/etc going out, to take advantage of the salary-matching rules to lever up salary. I'm not too keen on the whole Melo plan anyway. Better to trade what assets aren't fitting well for other assets that will fit better. Milsap fits better than Asik. That seems fair. Rondo would be an upgrade on Lin/Beverley, so I'd take that if its workable. If you can't swing a deal for Lin, it's fine. He's still good enough for the rotation. Next year, we can sign him to a smaller contract or let him walk.

Deron Williams is about to get an MRI on both ankles and, as he says it, get them "cleaned out".

It's enough to scare off wise investors but if it's to be believed he'll be as good as new (or, to quote Young Victor Frankenstein ["that's 'Frahnk-ehn-steen'"], "Why, he'd be as right as rain"), then maybe he'd be worth the risk.

But I'd only even entertain the notion if we could get Plumlee and/or Mirza Teletovic and his long-range shooting. And Brooklyn's Pierce would probably have to jump ship, which would take Garnett with him, and maybe put Brooklyn into expiring-contracts mode.

Even then, it's quite the gamble.

Millsap will be an expiring contract.

Not desperate yet? How many years ago is it now since the Rockets had a starting PF who can grab a rebound? Also some defense at the position would be nice.

So, we're tying up , what 10 million in Millsap's contract next year?

We're not going to hang onto Jones...and DMo will most likely go too (although I have faith in him BECOMING)

It's just..for the exact reason you stated...we MUST capitalize on the window over the next several years.

    We can do better.

if you can do millsapp for asik you do that anyday and ask questions later. I would throw in DMO also if I had to if hes not needed with a LIN trade.

morey may have some deal setup to move LIN + pick for cap space, and we still have the MLE to work with center, "PG"/6th man. We wont be going anywhere with jones/asik at PF in playoffs. when you start jones you have a problem with defense, when you start asik you have a problem with spacing and offense & neither can pick & pop. Millsapp solves all those problems and hes a vet, solid locker room / hardworking guy.

    howard
    millsapp
    parsons
    harden

No way in hell do the Rockets trade for Deron Williams. I'd rather they give Lin a 3-year extension before they commit to that dude's remaining 3 years.

Technically speaking you are correct and if they are looking to trade Asik it will probably be for that pick (15 ) and Jones, but I honestly think Lin should be traded back to NY for a rebirth of Linsanity. With the issues they will be having nect yearthey need somebody to put butts in the seats if Melo catches ghost....Maybe even a 3 way trade with NY, Rox and ATL...

    Rox:
    In: Melo + filler
Out: Asik, Jones, Lin + Cash

    ATL:
    Out: Milsap ,15th pick, filler
    In: Asik ,Jones

    NY
In: Lin, Milsap, 15 Pick + Cash (for Lin)
    Out:Melo, Filler

    or separate deals possibly

We're always looking to trade the people that contribute and keep the people who don't. And then we're jealous of the Spurs. Like banging your face against a brick wall and being mad that other people's noses aren't bleeding.

I think Boston wants Asik to pair with Rondo and a free agent power forward in 2014 or 2015. If Houston gets Rondo, it defeats the purpose of the trade for Boston, and if Boston gets Asik without giving up Rondo, it helps create another competitor for Houston for an elite free agent PF.

Asik isn't leaving unless we get an elite player or asset in return. His value isn't just in what he does for us, but it would he could do for another team.

basketballholic, I finally got Larry Coon to chime in on this issue:

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=8970370&postcount=84

Bottom line: It's a no-go on using salary advances to mitigate those balloon payments.

This nothing. Atlanta is not getting rid of Milsap after one year. Everybody can put that dream to rest.

Not going to happen so lets focus on another player. Maybe we can get Ty Gipson.
