Where did I say Fox was bidding on CSN H? If you continue to not pay attention I am not going to respond to you.
You're implying that Fox, and other bidders, will simply low-ball the teams for their media rights... and you have zero tangible evidence that its going to happen. I know you "hope" it happens, so Crane really gets it in the rear... but MLB and NBA team media rights are above your bias, so sorry. And again, what they'll end up signing for/getting is far more than what they're not making now. And as far as looking for a "quick" solution... it would have happened months ago had the Astros been allowed to take back their media rights. Now, 8 months later, millions of dollars wasted on court fees, millions of fans deprived the chance to watch their teams, millions of dollars lost by both teams in unpaid revenue... we're right back at square one. That is what people are frustrated with... that after all your bull****ting about "due process", and "everybody has to look out for the best interests of the company"... that you still can't admit that its been one colossal waste of money and time.
I am going to broadcast games on MLB TV . That statement doesn't have anything to do with poker it's a bluff. I negotiate contracts individually worth as much as 50M per year. Bluffing is a tactic in negotiating and a very risky one. so going all in like CSN H did was dumb. I am offering a point of view that differs from some. I have gotten support from many posters behind the scenes who don't want to deal with the dog pile act. You run in and out of this thread mainly to toss insults and you think someone else is polluting a thread.
He has been holding out for a reasonable business deal...the judge has stated that all of the deals brought to the partners have been bad business deals. Are you really advocating that Crane should have accepted one of the rotten deals (judge's words) that was put before him? Your comments suggest that...or that he should accept a hypothetical deal that hasn't materialized.
And yet you think Crane should have caved and "not held things up for AL West money", and accepted the bad (only) deal. Remind me to not use you for my next contract negotiation.
I predicted a lengthy legal process after the Rockets joined the BK to avoid it being dismissed on technicality. I predicted it would be lengthy but ultimately thought if the judge kept it around it would be directed towards a purposeful end. And since Comcast had made it very clear that they were interested and willing to buy up all the assets, I assumed there was always that backstop...and I'm guessing the judge assumed that too as he first turned over negotiating reigns to the Rockets and the Astros. But after both of those parties came back saying there was nothing out there. And the Rockets specifically said that but for a Comcast buyout, there is no alternative for CSN-H....and then after hearing Comcast say they're no longer interested in the buyout option..... then yeah...it became a road to absolutely nowhere. It's an absolute impediment to me teams being able to do anything to get their product on the airwaves. In the Astros initial pleadings they called this proceeding a bridge to nowhere...and it's become just that. It's not getting us anywhere, because the practical reality is that the only solution is a Comcast buyout, and they're saying they're not interested. Ultimately, if this proceeding were lengthy but was pointing towards a legitimate reorganization, I'd understand it....I wouldn't like it, but I'd understand it. But that's not where we are now. We have a legal proceeding that makes impossible any chance of seeing my teams on TV any time soon...and it's seemingly pointed at absolutely nothing but the hope that Comcast will change its mind.
The only carrier to make a formal offer says holding out for unrealistic money has decreased the value of the product.
of course they're saying that. when an industry wants to collude to stop the rise of prices, and suddenly two teams who've had moderate success in the last twenty years and who play in the fourth largest city in the nation can't get what the damned Mariners are getting, of course they're going to say that.
Did everyone see where ATT is considering a purchase of DTV? That could make this situation worse since ATT has yet to show any interest in paying the rates being sought in this market.
They are saying that because despite the teams not being on their network for nearly 2 years that have lost very little business over it
That doesn't change the fact that the only offer made was a bad deal. The judge even said that the Astros were right to reject it.
If it stays in BK, that's may be where it's headed. Liquidation. And then there will be a fight over whether a trustee has the right to assign away the Astros and Rockets media rights. I expect amicus briefs from MLB and NBA arguing vehemently that those rights can't be auctioned off like that. It becomes a much bigger issue at that point.
The thing I have not seen is where they were still going to get the 80 million carriage fees regardless of network losses under their present deal. Have they seen any of that projected 80 million over the past year?
Here's 1 source, there are multiple others.... http://houston.cbslocal.com/2013/11/25/is-houston-astros-owner-jim-crane-selling-fans-a-pipe-dream/ They weren't projected for 80M last year..... That's the average. Try to keep up if you are going to nitpick everything. And no they didn't, because Crane's partners decided to try to break the stalemate created by their partner who was running his product in to the ground (and the value of the Network) by putting a shoe string payroll crappy ass product on the field. They weren't going to infuse more cash if Crane was going to continue to look out for his own interest and not the Networks. The Rockets actually try to field a winning team by spending money to put a good team on the court.
From a Network perspective, yeah a bad deal. Not really all that bad if the Astros get all their media rights money. The problem is based on the carriage deals that are getting cut today with providers, the teams may have gotten to much in media rights for a Network to support the fees. The market changed.... And we haven't been told the 20 year effect so maybe things are better than reported if that is taken in to consideration.
