I'm still confused why Steve Kerr is such a hot name. I don't doubt he'll be good, he just hasn't done anything to make me see the hype.
I have plenty of doubts but we'll see. The spotlight now shines squarely on Phil and the Knicks. What is Plan B?
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Knicks regrouping after Kerr surprised w/ Golden State choice, but sources say Derek Fisher and Kurt Rambis will be among those considered</p>— Ramona Shelburne (@ramonashelburne) <a href="https://twitter.com/ramonashelburne/statuses/466749610569244672">May 15, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
And Mark Jackson won 50+ games setting all types of franchise records. If Kerr doesn't match that his 1st year, Golden State fans will go crazy. More pressure will be on Kerr and the organization than Jackson
Defensive stats mean what exactly? In the playoffs when you have to defend , when everyone plays with a high intensity, how capable is a team? With guys like Thompson, curry and lee, not much. Bogut helps em out, but the underlying softness factor is gonna keep em golden stating . Fine by me
Anyone know how Carmelo was feeling about the possibility of Kerr becoming the Knicks coach? Fisher and Rambis being considered. Do you think Carmelo would have preferred Kerr over either of these guys? Does this bode well for the Rockets in chase for Carmelo? Would be interested in knowing the answers to these questions.
Kerr just used the Knicks to end up with a 5 year deal. That is a big commitment for a guy who has never coached, especially from a playoff team.
It's pretty much the exact same scenario as when mark Jackson was hired. A terrible commentator with zero experience is hired nd is proven to be a buffoon on the sideline. It was a mistake then and likely a mistake now.
I don't understand why there's so much hate for his media work, but oh well. I'm not saying his media work is a good reason to hire him as a head coach, but he's much smarter than most announcers or commentators. (Not that we're setting a high bar.)
Actually I find his commentating to be unoriginal and without any insight. He never breaks down plays or provides anything really. Even McHale when he did a bit of color would point out tendencies and what basic play was being run. Kerr is in high demand because of his background as a GM, it should make his relationship with ownership and the front office easier. Further Phil Jackson vouching for him is a plus. I personally think 75% of NBA head coaches make a minimal positive or negative difference, but I have concerns that Kerr will not get the respect of the players. He wasn't respected by his teammates as a player and there were comments from players when he was a GM. More of an issue? You better believe the Warriors will want to surround Kerr with quality assistants, the Rockets need to get on the ball and figure out who they want to add.
Kerr, regardless of the quality of his commentating, never shuts up. Dude just goes on and on and loves the sound of his own voice. Hopefully it means more games for CWebb.
