Are teams willing to double and triple team that much with Watt on the field?

I used to have that same stance as you until I watched the tape two weeks before the draft. The numbers LIE!!!!

It's amazing how much teams game planned for him.

Running plays away from him...passing plays with quick routes...Guards and Tackles double teaming him...RBs and TEs helping with some chip blocks...

Those numbers tell such a small part of the story. Put him on the field alongside JJ and that really spells trouble for the O-coordinator. Nix will be a handful for one blocker too, so I think we could present a 4 man rush that is pretty exceptional.

I really haven't seen any college defensive player more feared by opposing offenses than Clowney.

Mario was the guy you wanted in a 4-3. Clowney is more versatile and much better suited for OLB in a 3-4.

Plus, you forget how nasty our defense was in those five games rookie Watt had with healthy Mario.

J.J. is so impressive. Amazing that he didn't get more hype when he was coming out.

But the 3 cone drill and the 20 yard shuttle are the two things I zero in on when judging pass rushing prospects. The combination of these two things are much more important than the 40 (the 40 time is the thing I pay attention to least for pass rushers). And J.J. blows Mario and Clowney out the water in those departments. Aaron Donald tested very well in these two events also (and he was doubled all the time).

I give the edge to Mario as far as being the better prospect than Clowney. Impressive combine #'s and impressive college career.

Both players are freaks of nature. Hopefully Clowney will turn out to be a HOFer.

One thing I've learned watching basketball over the years is that it is easy to see (and therefore be impressed by) speed and quickness. Strength is a little bit more elusive.

If you haven't really watched Clowney a whole lot, his explosion off the snap will be one of the most impressive things you've seen lately. Clowney is a natural Sportscenter highlight waiting to happen.

I think that Mario makes up a ton of ground with his combination of both quickness and the strength and size to complement it.

I wouldn't want to try to choose between them. They are both essentially one - of - kind type athletes. However, when casual fans watch games. Clowney ' s freakyness will immediately be more self evident.

Would you guys accept Clowney being as good as Mario? Nothing more, nothing less.

If he's "as good as Mario" he'll average double digit sacks every season, someone being "as good as Mario" on a defense with JJ Watt is scary.

    Take that as a "yes".

Mario 2.0 would be good, but disappointing IMO.

If he's Mario in terms of health, then I'd be disappointed, if he's Mario in terms of talent? That's two top 5 pass rushers in the NFL on the same line.

    Mario in terms of production.

    He's not a top 5 rusher.. top 10, maybe.

When he's healthy he's good for 12-15 sacks a season, not many players give you that kind of consistent production. His problem has been that he hasn't been healthy most of his career. If Clowney averages 12-15 sacks a season, he'll be a perennial pro-bowler

Brooks reed, Bruce Irvin etc. Lots of players have quick splits but can't get to the QB.

Mario's best year was very similar to Michael Sam for example(high sack total in a 3 game stretch)

Clowney's explosion off the snap is much better than Mario's and he also possesses better pass rush ability than Mario had coming out of college.

You have tons of experts who are calling Clowney the best prospect in a long time. I have to disagree with you bud.

    Bob McNair on Clowney/Williams:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/houston-texans/post/_/id/3547/mcnair-clowney-better-athlete-than-mario-williams

[rquoter]"He's one of these players who's a once-in-every-10 years kind of physical specimen that comes along. Mario Williams was that way. I think Clowney is actually a better athlete than Mario.

"Like many of these players that have great physical attributes, they didn't have to work as hard in junior high school and high school and in college to be a superlative athlete because they have this natural ability. He's not a J.J. Watt. J.J. didn't have that natural ability. He worked. He developed his. I said, 'J.J., I don't know what will happen, but if we get Clowney, we want you to instill in him the same kind of work habits that you have.' He said, 'If he's in the same room with me, then he'll have them.'"[/rquoter]

Mario's career high is 14.0. He did that once. He's been a top 5 rusher maybe one season.

We know you love Clowney, but be honest. lol
