Disgusting how Bush administration is responsible for breaking 4th amendment, committing felonious acts against US citizens.

    Criminal.

Great watch if you have a chance. It has own staffers of bush and counsel in their own words.

Spy program put forward amendments and laws be damned. Bush lying about the nature of the spy program while on the campaign trail. Part 1 of 2.

    Here is the PBS documentary:

This. Conservatives will be either defensive, silent or dismissive of the documentary... highlighting the disingenuous nature of all the faux Benghazi outrage. They don't care about accountability, because they won't call for 13 investigations to look into this issue, to figure out who is responsible for betraying the american people and impose an appropriate punishment. Ironically, they're the party of privacy and small government, but domestic surveillance won't move the needle.

They care about the next election. Which is why it will be Benghazi tralala all the way to 2016.

How about it conservatives, do you care about rooting for your team, or are you mature enough to hold everybody to account?

I would've thought our current president would put an end to this, but whatever he's seen or knows and the actions he's done to date indicates that these initiatives are alive and strong.

Even if Bush was a weak president that sacrificed moral principles and the rule of law to achieve results, the policies he helped put in place are still around.

That at the very least indicates there's something beyond ****ed up going on that transcends party affiliation...Either the threats are very real or the power up on top is absolutely corrupt.

Yup. There's plenty to go after the current administration for, but ... Benghazi, because Obama's not in the next election.

Terrible. Too bad the current admin isn't any better and people from both parties overlook this and just point fingers at the bad things the other party's admin have done.

I don't agree. Obama didn't originate these policies, Bush did. It's foolish to believe Obama was going to cede these powers. He's basically proven to be a moderate, corporate Republican which makes it all the more funny how the crazies accuse him of being an extreme liberal . I denounce him for continuing these abuses of power. The alternative to him though is crazyville which is no alternative. The system is broken. I think you would find if there were a real alternative to these corporate Republicans that masquerade as Democrats then they would get significant support in a system where billionaires and corporations don't rule the day.

OP - and how Congress made it permanent and how Obama continue the program. This started under Cheney (yea, Bush was again shown to be a puppet), but the whole government (Execute, Legislative, Judicial - at least the FISA court) bought into it (or more like becoming deaf and blind and stupidly believing the government grossly misleading arguments at the time) and allow it to continue.

Pretty awesome documentary. However, it seems a bit tilted toward being constitutional as an overall theme. I was hoping they showed more about being practical and how the US public is (if at all) care or not care about privacy for the potential sake of security.

I particular want to know if The Program actually has stopped any terrorist attack. You would think that if it did, there would be leak to have public support. Since there weren't any, maybe there really hasn't been any at all. And if so, this might have started as something honest to stop terrorists, but has become a power grab that they clearly do not want to give up.

    Nobody voluntarily gives up power

Interesting about bush, was he really that clueless or was he acting stupid to keep it going?

    Either one is sad.

And yes I blame Obama for keeping it going. I blame obama for lots of things and I am very disappointed in obama and the moves he has made as commander in chief. turns out he is no better and his campaign for change and all that sounded great but was a big lie. I am against both parties for being a shame to the people.

Both parties are a monumental joke. One is slightly more joker than the other yet they are the same. Voting a 3rd party seems pointless but it's getting to that point that a cleaning of the whole group -both parties needs to take place.

The whole washington dc politicians scene has jumped the shark. I understand the feelings in 1789 france.

With over population, economic uncertainty, and climate change we have governments across the world who have identified the risk of this eventually causing turmoil within their lands. Population control is essential for stability. I know in Canada we are putting up cameras on almost all intersections. They also spent major money on riot control under the ruse of security. So your freedoms are going, and are going to only get less. Accept it.

As accurate as this is, it is tough for folks to internalize because this analysis doesn't fit the team politics model people hedge their identities on. It's kinda sad, because we have a public increasingly unable to think critically or sincerely debate issues. Any meaningful discussion is drowned out by sloganeering and political jingoism. (Not D&D trolling, but real public discussion.)

Rove(???) once said the mission of the party was to ensure democrats could not govern as democrats. While Rove seems to lament the loss of control of his own party to the crazy, he has got to be proud of having accomplished that primary goal of turning democrats into republicans.

Obama is like any other person in power. He was never gonna cede that power. Once Bush and Cheney let the genie out of the bottle, it was out. Even if Obama wanted to roll back these powers, he would have to fight tooth and nail with the intelligence agencies and military agencies vested with these expansive security powers.

I think I posted before the 2008 elections that rubelicans spouting that dems were weak on international security were going to be wrong because the dems are known historically as prodigious brown people killers and will overcompensate for fear of appearing weak.

I think, once you get in that office, the overwhelming weight of protecting the American people from all external threats compromises any sense openness you come into the office with, Mr. Bush or Mr. Obama. The briefings these guys get every morning would probably scare the pants off any normal rational person.
