But there is clear evidence of wights because John Snow killed one when it attacked Mormont at Castle Black. If there's wights, then it's very plausible for them to believe in White Walkers. The show doesn't do a good job of making them a threat. They've been teased in the beginning and every 10 episodes between, but we're supposed to believe that they are an ever-coming apocalypse. And that winter is coming. But not really.
Remember that the only people who would know about that would be the brothers of the Night's Watch. Nobody else saw it and nobody else would believe it. The Watch is always scouring for recruits, so chances are anyone who gets a raven talking about wights and walkers would think they are just trying to stir up recruits. No where I DO agree with you is that the brothers of the Watch don't seem nearly worried enough and they DO know the walkers are real. Example is the mutineers. Why in the heck would they stay at Craster's when they know that Walkers are up there. Why aren't the brothers at the wall trying to stir up the locals to fight with them? I agree, they don't make the White Walkers seem very imminent.
It could be seen as propaganda but you also have the general of the Night's Watch and the b*stard of a noble lord as witnesses. I'd think their word would at least be credible. Plus, if they sent out ravens saying "hey guys, we just killed an undead", you'd think other lords would take it seriously. I mean, they did take oaths and there is some type of honor. I don't think the other lords would just write it off as the Night's Watch crying wolf.

The Nights Watch is filled mostly with thieves and rapists and others who are not of noble blood, not exactly the most believable sort. Like someone said earlier, if you got a message from someone (even someone you trusted) said they were about to fall under attack be dinosaurs, you would be a little skeptical. There are wars going on. The rest of the kingdom is not exactly in position to start supporting the Nights Watch when they have more immediate dangers in the kingdom. Kings are falling like flies and there is no stability. First order of business is to get the kingdom in order. Wildlings have never been taken as a serious threat either so unless you are convinced that the White Walkers are real and you have no more time, you might not be ready to start sending troops to help. The temporary leader of the Nights Watch is Alisor Thorne who hates John Snow and someone that I don't think was with the rest of the nights watch at the fist of the first men when they were attacked by the White Walkers. He seems to be much more concerned with establishing himself as the new Lord Commander and preparing for the more immediate threat of the Mance Raider Wildling Army. I don't think its that they are ignoring the White Walker threat so much as they have more immediate concerns that they have no choice but to address now.
It's fun to read the non-readers speculation on what's going to happen. Since I spoiled the show for myself by reading the books, I now live vicariously through this thread wondering what's going to happen.
I'm watching the first season over again. Too much **** has happened since then. Way too much ****. I need a refresher on the back stories (And Khaleesi boobs).
Many know of these but you can get a lot of the back story's on Youtube . Just search "game of thrones Histories & Lore " There are a bunch of animated shorts that came on the dvd's and explain a lot of the past history.
Hahaha this is so true.. I have read the books so I try not to post anything in here but I do lurk around and is obvious to me when people do that.
