Somewhere, Mark Jackson is having a good chuckle. I really think GSW shot themselves in the foot w/ this one.

It took the title and 3 tweets for me to figure out which Van Gundy you were talking about--

    well played.

7 mil per?! Hang on. Is SVG just gonna coach or is he involved with player personnel decisions?

That kind of salary scares the crap out of me. If/when Morey and Les realize they have to hire a real coach, they may balk at the cost and decide to go cheap in that area(especially if they still believe coaching doesn't matter).

No...... the fact that he wants to have TOTAL control of the organization is why he isn't the Rockets head coach.

Hmmm...now they gotta reconstruct this mess of a roster.

Don't know what Stan thinks of Josh Smith, but he should be shipped out immediately. Wonder what team will take him though...

Otis Smith was under unbelievable pressure to win right away, that is a big reason he made the deals he did. Besides, the REAL GM is going to be Stan Van Gundy.

I can promise you the GS management doesn't think so.

How funny would it be for SVG to go to Detroit and then GS nabs Kerr....because the Knicks have been dickering around with Kerr on contract terms trying to get him on the cheap. That dickering could cost them when a great GS job is available.

He's been highly complimentary of Smith on various occasion in interviews, calling him one of the most underrated players in the entire league, etc...

I'm guessing he'll try to coach Smith up and try to sign&trade Monroe (perhaps with Jennings attached to him) for a PG (+ filler).
Double S&T's are quite rare, but something like Monroe + Jennings for Lowry + Salmons might work.

Edit: Also, IIRC, in the latter part of SVG's tenure with the Magic they (Otis Smith) actually tried to trade for Josh Smith.

JVG will be a great coach for the Pistons. Only regret he isn't our coach

Damn, that's a nice pick up for Detroit. JVG would definitely tell Josh Smith to stop shooting bad jumpers and play to his strength.

in orlando smith was SVG's boss. he did what he / management wanted with the roster. now SVG puts in the request and smith will try to make it happen. he will have to check everything by SVG. he's pretty much a phone call maker. SVG will be the brains behind every move. GREAT deal in DET for a great coach. we would've had no chance at beating this offer.

    the knicks will sign kerr.

*after that the list of open jobs is: CLE, GSW, LAL, MIL, MIN, and UTA
*the list of best available coaches is: Karl, Hollins, Mcmillan, Calipari, Ollie, Hoiberg, woodson, brown, D'antoni (note: i don't think brown or d'antoni are good coaches, but big enough names to land another job)

i'd bet that karl lands in GSW. great fit for both sides. Hollins lands in LA, after d'antoni they will appreciate his defense and overall bball intelligence. hoiberg in mini! the mayor returns! mcmillan lands the cavs job. ollie and calipari stay in college. brown and woodson have to take assistant jobs. d'antoni works for ESPN, and MIL/UTA will have to hire someone else's assistant.

meanwhile the rockets are stuck with mcfail... all these good coaches would choose us in a second over all of those other teams. oh well.

you make a good point, but it depends how good of a coach Kerr is. GS could snag him and regret it.
