Clowney is coming in to a favorable position.

JJ Watt will get the attention.

Kiper promised Clowney will get 15 sacks this year..... Hmmmm.

I think the Rams had a great draft. But I don't believe the Texans had the next best draft after them. I think several teams had better drafts.

If they would have drafted defensive players in the 2nd and 3rd round to go along with Clowney _ I would have gave them a B-A.

I hope that you're right, but that is a very, very, very strong statement. 2006 is a high standard-bearer on that front.

Personally, I am very hopeful that we're going into next season with a solid infusion of talent from these seven rounds. I'm thinking 3 starters right off of the bat and maybe 5 or 6 by the start of next season.

Crazy how Bortles went from third best out of the Manziel-Bridgewater-Bortles to now all of a sudden being the best chance to be a succes now that he became a third overall pick.

I'm not sold completely on any of these QBs. The QB I liked fell hard and fast but I still didn't feel like he was a can't miss prospect. Just like with Bortles.

I guess hindsight brings the "truth" out of people.

Bortles was always regarded as the most prototypical prospect

It's debatable who had the best draft but yeah I agree with you a corner/saftey or one of Tuitt or Hageman along with the Nix pick would have set this team up on defense for years.

Not really a fan of either but with Garoppolo, anything can happen if Bill Belichick is your head-coach.

I actually laughed for ten minutes after Bortles was the pick, could have been from the excitement i was going through because I was so glad we didn't trade back but I think the Jags have another mediocre QB.

Funny thing is that New England said they would have drafted Blake in the 1st if he fell to them. Belichick wanted Blake too...

The Jags hired David Caldwell in 2013 as their GM. Before that he was in charge of college and pro scouting in Atlanta for 4-5 years and before that he worked under Bill Polian for 10 years. The dude has a good track record and he killed it in the draft last year, and not including Blake _ he killed it in this year's draft too... I'm not laughing at anything he does until it doesn't work.

Gus Bradley was in Seattle when they drafted Aaron Curry. That's probably why they didn't go after Mack.

Bill Bellicheck's draft record is pretty terrible honestly and the QBs he has drafted have been pretty terrible as well.

You have Brady obviously, but since then it's been a pretty bad run of drafts for Billy Boy.

B+ (which is pretty damn good)

    1. Clowney - he was the best player in the draft but I thought Mack was a close 2nd, and fit our scheme better. Still, getting this pick right made me feel better. It had to be Clowney or Mack. A-
    2. Sua Filo - best player on the board period...and at a position of need to boot. We needed a LG and we got a pro bowl talent. Lot of good guards to be found later but this was a solid pick A-
    3. Fiedorowicz - wasn't too high on this pick. I think we reached a little given the lack of quality TEs. But he was the last of the best, I think he's better than a couple that went before him, BOB needed a poor-man's Gronk. We need a RT so much more and there were good ones on the board. So not a bad pick, but one of our weaker picks. B-
    3. Nix - hard to find a good NT and this guy was one of the best in the draft. He deserved to be taken at the top of the 2nd and we got him at the bottom of the 3rd. Huge value and fills a huge need. I applaud the Texans for being aggressive. A
    4. Savage - unlike most I'm not freaking out over the lack of QB draft priority, but Savage seemed like a solid pick at the bottom of the 4th. He was a top 50 player on Mayock and Brandt's board. The talent and upside are there, the track record is lacking. Worthy of taking a flyer and I think BOB will bring the best out of him. B+
    6. Pagen - excellent pick. Would have gone in the 3rd without the injury. Perfect for Romeo's scheme. Will occupy blocks. Probably a 6th round steal. B+
    6. Blue - one of my favorite dark bourse RB prospects. Perfect for a flyer in the 6th round. We needed more depth there and the upside is big. Solid pick. B
    6. Porsch - I don't get excited about FBs, but getting the nation's best at the end of the 6th is a smart move. Foster had his best years with a stud FB, and hopefully we'll get déjà vu. Both the TE and the FB pick will help up front. B+
    7. Hall - don't know much except he was good value and we need a slot corner B+
    7. Ballentine - don't know much but he's an athletic freak and we need a safety. B

I would have given the texans an A-, but their inability to find a RT (especially given that Williams is still struggling with knee issues) is a real head-scratcher. They get dinged for reaching on that TE, but most every other pick was excellent value, and all our picks were solid players. Best texans draft I've seen since Smith took over. Hopefully this is the beginning of competency.

Hard to screw up a draft this talented though ;). I enjoyed watching all 3 days.

His picks haven't panned out well as a whole, but his draft savvy is top notch. I like his pension for trading picks, moving back, and accumulating future picks. The Pats are always flush come draft day. That's a good thing.

I am in the boat with Kam - I thought they at least had players at OL, & DL and ILB was their position of highest priority, IMO, after those. Cushing is high octane and subject to injury, Reed is inexperienced at ILB and anyone else we have is 2nd and 3rd tier ILB's so I wanted the 2nd round pick to be an ILB. But, at the same time, this draft seemed to be low on high quality ILB's.

His strategy is smart to accumulate picks, but he misses on them. Otherwise the league would be in trouble. The only thing that has kept the Patriots from winning Superbowls since their awesome run at the beginning of the century (feels weird saying that lol) is their inability to draft well.

Don't know.... But it's obvious Belichick doesn't believe he can just find another quarterback in a late round like he did with Brady because he's always drafting them early.

Jimmy G and Mallet will battle over who will be the heir-apparent

1 pick can make a terrible coach into a genius. Belichek is overrated.

Actually I think Mallet is on the way out the door. They did the same thing when they had Hoyer...

I would be amazed if they attempt to resign Mallet after this year. To me, that would indicate that Belichick has misgivings about Jimmy G after a year of working with him.

He's still a VERY good coach. No mismatch goes unexploited when BB makes a game plan, that's the reason he's an all time great, not because of Brady.
