I have a feeling that Silver will only allow the sale of the Clippers if the buyer(s) are black or minority.

Nothing says "We're not racist" by favoring one group over another.......

Ehhhhh, the things that really matter for the purity of the sport are still the same. Terrible officiating, no transparency, restriction of questioning the NBA that can compromise its "integrity", lopsided conferences, big city teams dominating the free agent market, and a myriad of bad rules.

Just because Silver outed a racist owner, that's had a long well-documented history of being racist when something could've been done about it long ago, doesn't make him the NBA's messiah.

    Don't be too paranoid guys.
I think Mr. Silver is the real deal.
If the world recognized that he is an asset, I just hope our Rockets organization also recognizes a failure when they see one.

No Problem with Dick Parsons being CEO....my question is would Silver even consider him if he happened to be white?

This whole thing has been blown up to ridiculous proportions. ONE guy has prejudiced views and the whole country loses their minds and the NBA bans him, fines him millions of dollars, the players stage "silent protests" like they are staging sit-ins when people used to face REAL discrimination, the commissioner apologizes to black people, the NBA rolls out the "We are one" campaign, Silver appoints a black CEO, etc.

The whole thing is just ridiculous.

of course, look at his accomplishments / past positions.

It doesn't matter to me that Silver picked an African American, except that Sterling was probably a little extra annoyed by it,

and the thought of Sterling being extra annoyed kinda gives me a warm feeling, somehow.

Could it have gone any other way?

Sterling may have been a racist douchebag - no argument from me on that - but I just wonder about the precedent all of this sets. I understand that the NBA is a league that has its own rules, but when they can simply step in and take away your team and ban you for life simply because they find your words distasteful... How does that not have a chilling effect?

I understand that this is not a 1st Amendment issue - it's a private sector league and they of course can make their own rules as long as they don;t break any laws. But there's something just sort of... off about this whole affair. And yes, I know I will probably be called a racist by the usual suspects here for not towing the line here, but like I said, it calls into question the entire concept of ownership when the league can simply step in and take your team away. Anyone think this'll be the last time we see something like this happen? I wouldn't bet on it.
