Your QB Solution

Discussion in 'Houston Texans' started by justtxyank, May 9, 2014.

?

What would your QB solution be?

  1. Take a QB at 33

    18.7%
  2. Take a project QB later in this draft

    32.3%
  3. Trade for Ryan Mallett

    11.0%
  4. Hold the fort and wait for a better option next year

    38.1%

You obviously can't know that answer because neither do the Texans.

    I don't love Garoppolo.

    1) Want someone that is mobile personally
    2) Hate when scouting reviews say "strong enough arm."

Late round project QB's never pan out. If they don't believe in Carr then there's nobody here worth drafting. Just stay the course and see how things evolve over time. Make your team as good as you can regardless of the position. Remain flexible, like Morey did, as you build your franchise over time. Patience pays off... taking a QB just because you need one, that can result in doom.

"Strong enough arm" can sometimes be a good sign because teams see a guy who has a "cannon arm" and they go stupid and overlook his other flaws. Meanwhile, a guy who merely has a "sufficient" arm is going to have other traits (good or bad) factor in more. Less likely for a team to take a future bust who's physical tools overshadow the fact that he can't play the position.

Or it means his arm is weak but the guy doing the write up likes him so he's masking the weak arm.

Arizona is a bad example. They won 10 games last year and their offense looked better once Palmer caught on to Bruce's complicated system.

Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh (pre Big Ben) and the Jets are good examples. And Seattle pre Russell as well.

Who's in the class of 15?

Winston, Mariotta, Hundley?, the fella from Baylor.

I prefer Arizona to Cleveland or Buffalo. Those are two teams that have just been run like garbage for years aside from the need for a QB.

Arizona is a team that has had a good defense for a few years now (a hell raising defense in fact) but their lack of a QB since Warner retired has made them a team that competes every Sunday but has no chance to win a title.

That's what I don't want the Texans to become.

Putting him and Clowney on the same squad is a recipe for disaster

No you misunderstand me, my point is you have to answer the poll with the variable being you have no idea where you'll get to draft next year so that option is a total risk.

Jeff Garcia - undrafted (not one of the all time greats but he was successful. Garcia to T.O. was one of the top wr/qb tandems for awhile)

Mark Brunell - 5th round (super bowl apperance)

Matt Hasselbeck - 6th round ( super bowl apperance)

Tony Romo - undrafted (dont care for him)

    Joe Theismann - 4th round

    Kurt Warner - undrafted

    tom brady - 6th round

Franchise type qb's can be found all over in the draft. I was not sold on either of the big 3 qb's. This mentality that you guys have about its not JFF so we might as well not draft anyone else at the position are cracking me up.

Even more recently. Russel Wilson, Colin Kap.....

Unless they have some one who they have a first round grade on the board at QB, might as well wait to see who is left in the 3rd or 4th. Just taking a QB because you need one is a wasted pick you don't think he has a good chance of being your long term answer at the position.

In the 4th, if someone like Aaron Murray is still around and they think he could be the answer, or at least a better answer than anything on their roster or available via trade, then that's significantly low enough to take a flyer on someone who may never be the long term solution. Even then they have to feel there is a reasonable chance he could be a good starter. Don't draft a QB that you don't think is going to be much better than what we already have just because what you have sucks.

Bottom line is they have to be right about whoever they pick, and if their picks are good then it will mitigate the backlash of someone they pass on also being good.
