Texans already have 11 picks. I do not see OBie wanting to fit 11 rookies on his roster, if he wants to be competitive next year. I fully expect one or two trade ups for the Texans before the draft is over.
We NEED help at OT. So, Cyrus the Virus, or move back and take Moses. If we're not going OT, one of the DT's... TUITT (top preference over anybody left) , Nix, or Jernigan.
Probably Louis Nix III, aka Irish chocolate. We need a NT for Romeo and Nix is reminiscent of Wilfork. He consistently had a first round grade. Here's an unbiased article on him: http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/5/...s-nix-nose-tackle-4-3-defense-scouting-report. But I certainly would like to get two guys from this list, so i would entertain a trade down from 33 if it got us 2 picks in the 2nd; Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State Joel Bitonio, OT, Nevada
Said it last night, I'll say it again, we need to get 2 starters out of the 2nd. and 3rd. Rookie QB's don't start. Your guess about the future of any of them in this draft is about the same with a 5th rounder as with Carr.
At this point whoever the take I'd be ok with as long as it fits a need. For some reason I have a suspicion that Mettenberger is the qb who ends up being drafted by the Texans. No real reasoning just a gut feeling.
Looking at the BPA, Louis Nix certainly appears to be the best option right now. Pretty much everyone gave him a first round grade, and he fills an obvious need for a 3-4 clogger. If you think Carr is gonna be a player you take him, regardless of name, but i don't think they will.
If they can get him in rd 4 or 5 I would be ok with that. Seems to have done well in a pro style O last year.
Would he start before Crick? (I know we are still going to need rotation depth in the front 3) Would he start over Mercilus or Reed? (I know we are still going to need rotation depth in the 4 LB's))
I think I read somewhere that Rick Smith was looking to get as many 2nd day picks as possible(top 100) since there is a lot of depth. Could be some trade downs AND trade ups with the arsenal of picks we have. Having 11 or more rookies in camp is a good thing. Creates an open competition and the cream will rise to the top. Of course, you probably wouldn't be able to keep all of them but with the holes we have, it is possible .
