He cant defend or rebound any better than Jones. Well, he can defend a slight bit better. I like what we showed when we dominated the boards. I prefer that to a soft 4 with range. We already score at an elite level.

2012-2013 - Asik / Patterson with no bench to speak of
DRB - 2nd @ 75.2%

Patterson to Jones was an enormous downgrade. Pat was actually a smart player who played mistake free ball. Maybe Jones gets there eventually, but as of now, no, it isn't close.

It is hilarious to me that people b**** and complain about McHale and all the mistakes the team made on the court this year, yet while we had Battier, Patterson, Hayes, etc., IE the folks who actually play smart, defend, rotate and close out, people did nothing but whine and cry about talent.

Patterson is a better player than Jones right now. Jones does have a higher ceiling, if he ever understands how to play smart defense and how to box out in rebounding. Basically, Jones is still clueless about positioning. He's a better finisher than Patterson around the rim though.
