They need to abolish Islam. Deplorable religion which encourages torture, pain, disgraceful acts etc repeatedly.

 

You comb the forest with satellites, then send the SEALs in when you find the girls.

 

Don't write off the beliefs of a billion people because of the deplorable acts of a few idiotic extremists.

 

At this point, it isn't just a "few". What's even worse than these extremeists are these Muslim theocracies that are popping up everywhere.

 

When expressed as a percentage of Muslims worldwide, it is a tiny, minuscule number. It is kind of like saying that every Christian is evil because there are a few nutjobs who think it is justifiable to kill abortion doctors.

 

I think it's a fair statement to say that out of all the major world religions practiced today Islam has the highest number of these "nut jobs". The bigger problem with Islam today is that for some reason Muslim majority nations have an affinity towards theocratic rule.

 

Islam is the youngest major religion, they have all gone through growing pains (by which I mean they have inflicted pain on the world) and Christianity is no exception.

That being said, saying that "they need to abolish Islam" due to the actions of a tiny number of extremists is the very definition of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

 

Youthful indiscretions?

 

Well there goes any possibility of having a reasoned discussion about how to best help in this situation.

Some just can't help themselves but use it as a cudgel to attack their political opponents.

I certainly wouldn't describe terrorist acts in this way, but I maintain that demonizing a billion people for the actions of a minuscule percentage of those people is just plain stupid.

 

If there was a magical wand that would make Islam disappear and not harm a single sole I would wave it. You are right though, abolishing a religion and coercing people against their own free will to change their beliefs will only result in a strengthening of their faith and more extremism. It will also give more justification to their extremist actions. If Islam is to disappear it has to be through the followers own free will.

 

A couple points.

First, I don' think equating Islam and what is going on is like comparing abortion doctor killings with Christianity.

Second, I don't care if Islam is the youngest major religion. We live in the here and now, and it is an issue now.

I agree, you don't abolish Islam.... I am not saying you are doing this, but many people are simply burrying their head in the sand.

 

There is a fine line between attacking the followers and the ideology. I hope I never cross it, especially since all my family practices Islam and I know all them are good people. I'm just glad they don't literally follow every word of the Quran.

 

So when Christianity was committing major atrocities around the globe, was the proper response to just sit back and say "Oh, it's just a young religion. Let's wait it out"?

No! People set out to fight and reform it.

Yes, total fail on all levels.

 

A major Islamic reformation is the only viable imminant solution. Unfortunately since one of the major tenants of Islam is that the Quran is the perfect word of God, it seems rather impossible to reform it.
