Just heard on 610 a few hours ago that... The Rockets might make a run at Deron Williams up in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is said to be looking for expiring contracts.. and after next season... Lin & Asik will have that. Lin + Asik for DWill? Get errrr done Morrey!
I say the Rockets need to complete Project H3 (As I like to call it). 1 guy gets that done. HORFORD He is the Power Forward we need. Keep Parsons, sign him to his deal, keep Beverley and continue to develop Jones and Daniels. What will it take to get Horford? At this point with Atlanta having no true Center? Asik, Filler and Picks. Milsap is and should be their PF going foward and Horford is not a Center. He is best used at the PF spot, period and Atlanta knows this. Rockets are now a legit contender. P.G. - Beverley / Canaan S.G. - Harden / Daniels S.F. - Parsons / ? P.F. - Horford / Jones ..C. - Howard / Motiejunas The Rockets are now a complete 2-way team with Horford and Howard completely sealing off the paint and locking down their man 1 on 1 . . . and guess what else, they still have the Full MLE to fill in bench holes. Morey! That's the deal we need.
Atlanta value Horford very highly (like a star), more highly than Asik I would imagine. Asik is also expiring (not sure he would stay) and his cash payment is $15 million (is Atlanta loaded?). Not sure Atlanta would do this deal.
Plea b, if Morey was as good as I thought he was he’d fired McHale by now, pick up JVG as HC, SVG as AC, acquire Rondo for Lin, Love for Asik, create an eisten-rosen bridge apparatus for Olajuwon to jump into and transform into ’94 Olajuwon, sign him to max deal, win championships. What a waste of an MIT education.
Easily replaceable?! Asik might be fumble around the basket but he is a legit seven footer giving you double digit rebounds a night off the bench! Defensively, there is no other presence like a big man; much less two big men on the floor at the same time. Offensively, he has bad hands, passes to him have to be dead on, and his obvious lack of ups limit him from being an all-star. He also proved helpful to have during the Portland series. D-Mo in my opinion should've gotten some minutes in the playoffs and the opportunity to guard LA.... but that's a completely different topic..
Hi, long time lurker first time poster. Just wanted to say that I've been following the Rockets since the whole New Age campaign, and I'm looking forward to what surprises the off season may bring. Knowing Moreyball, something will.
It's a different offseason for Morey. For every year of his tenure so far he's had to chase talent, trying to get a superstar without high draft picks. Now we have two, which we can use as magnets to draw a third. We can afford to be picky at this point and have plenty of assets. As much as I'd love to improve our roster for next season, I think our priority should be to maintain our flexibility to chase Kevin Love. If we can build a core of Harden/Howard/Love, the role players will come. Why focus on next year when we can build a potential dynasty? Last year it was Dwight or nothing. The hard part's over. We should now consider ourselves amongst the favorites in every single free agent pursuit.
Yes, easily replaceable. 7-footers who can block shots, rebound, and dunk a point blank shot are not rare in the NBA. Remember, we only need someone who can play 12-15 minutes a night to back up Dwight. The key is to get someone who can actually stay healthy. We whiffed last year on Greg Smith and Marcus Camby(and even to an extent Asik himself).
Potential dynasty? D12 is a beast. But what makes him so good and dominant is his strength and athleticism. He doesn’t have a refined post game. He doesn’t have a Jumper. He can’t shoot free throws. Unless he develops 4-5 unstoppable post moves or develops a consistent jumper he won’t have much longer in the league where he’s considered a superstar or even an all-star. When we got Dwight we went into win now mode. Morey, Les and the Rockets should be in desperation mode each summer to win it all the very next season. Not talk about “oh, our goal is second round this year.” “Oh, our goal is western conference finals this year.” “Oh, our goal is finals this year…” I want to hear them say and act like “it’s championship or nothing this year. Anything else would be a failure.” Our team does not have a winning mentality and it starts from the top. Les talks about “we were the youngest team in the league in the playoffs. Just that alone will get us much better.” One of your superstar players is 29 years old next season, Les. He talks about “It’s tough to win 54 games in the NBA…” A successful regular season means nothing. It just means lower draft pick. The goal is championship. We just don’t have that win-it-all mentality and I think long-time fans are just getting annoyed and the frustration is building up because of it.
Welcome to the BBS. Just wait until you start posting your opinions and you get mauled like a haunch of beef thrown into the bear pit. You'll love it. The BBS: not for the faint of heart.
i like the plan of staying put and luring durant or love but if we don't get either of those 2 you can cue andre ware's "Uh Oh" line when Howard approaches decision time v.3
If Lebron wound like to join the Rockets, I think Morey will trade Asik & Lin & Dmo to creat cap room; Morey will have some interest in Melo, but he will be hesitate before his decision to sign Melo a max contract. (Can Howard & Melo & Harden work? ) Otherwise, I don't think Morey will do any big change, he will be waiting for 2015, this is his primary plan
Been screaming this all along...I totally agree.would be exactly what we need.its almost crazy not to with the needs being equally met for both teams and opposite conferences.
