That makes sense. I would place more value on a top flight defensive center, but I could see Atlanta thinking an all-star PF (even if not in the league of Aldridge/Love/Nowitzki/etc) would have more value.
Atlanta's decision making process 'centers' around Horford, not Milsap. AH's injuries, his reported aversion to playing the 5, how Hawks' management determines if it is, indeed, Horford's 'team'. The trade they make, or reject, is not on sheer basketball terms. It is based on their reality as they determine it to be.
While a healthy Al Horford is the best player on Atlanta, he's now played in less than 30 games in 2 of the last 3 seasons. Moreover, Millsap has put up better playoff performances than Horford ever has. Really, when looking at fully healthy seasons, Horford only has one year of true true true All-Star+ like performance, which was 2012/2013. BUT, even with that, it was 37 mpg, it was a PER under 20, and he played worse in the playoffs. My point? Not sure... only that Atlanta is in an interesting situation, and Horford is slightly overrated, at least relative to Millsap. Millsap is only about 16 months older as well. Coming from a position of no bias at all, if I'm Atlanta, I am maybe, heck even probably, more interested in an Asik/Millsap frontline, than an Asik/Horford front line. If you are just looking at a swap for Asik, and your the Hawks, consider that you know absolutely what you'll get with Asik/Millsap healthwise. Both Asik and Millsap expire next year, and one would assume you'd ask for and get more for Horford. They'd be going into crazy actual cash salary land a bit, but: Asik, Lin, TJones, Draft Pick for Horford, Lou Williams type thing Still not beating Miami, of course, but in the East it is a pretty formidable squad.
they don't deserve more than asik+second round picks for millsap. elite defender/rim protector and rebounding at that position is extremely rare. undervaluing asik here. asik+jones+picks needs to be used for a higher caliber player.
We're not undervaluing Asik, we know how great he is. You don't seem to appreciate how good Millsap is. He is a great defensive player at the PF position, he is the anti-jones in the respect that he is spectacular at rotations and boxing out. He is a much, much better player than Jones. Plus 35 minutes of Millsap >>>>15 minutes of Asik. Given Millsap's friendly expiring contract , I would do Asik/Jones and a 1st rounder without even hesitating.
Hawks don't have a ton of leverage since Millsap only signed a short deal. They can't even talk extension with him! What worries me though is when he's a FA many teams will offer him more then what we can
whoa, this is desperation evaluation. millsap is great, but he is a 2nd tier player. asik provides just as much value as millsap. well maybe not exactly, but it is pretty damn close. do you know what having an elite rim protector/rebounder at the center position does to any team? especially the hawks since horford can go play 4 (they get 35 minutes of asik too). if im building a team, i take the elite defending center over a pretty good shooting, rebounding, and defending PF any day. just not high enough impact to warrant giving up additional pieces who provide decent production. asik+ 2nd round pick/s . not dmo, not tjones. they need to be saved for a high impact player trade. a rondo/melo/bosh/love level guy. not saying i support any of those players, but that's what you use jones and dmo for.
Millsap is straight up a better basketball player than Bosh and Rondo and frankly is he would probably be a much better fit for this team than Anthony. You have to look beyond the fantasy basketball stats to appreciate Millsap's impact. Over the last 4 season's Milsap's XRAPM has him as one of the 10-15 best players in the league, his impact on winning is that high. Love would be a higher priority if he were available.
Everyone would agree that Millsap is much, much better than Darrell Arthur, correct? If so, then, it seems the consensus is that Asik is light years better and much more valued than Kosta Koufos at $3M compared with Asik's $8M. I'm not buying it. Somebody convince me. Until then, a lot of you are totally overvaluing Asik IMO.
Asik/Parsons for Antic/Millsap who says no? I personally think that favours Atlanta, but I dont know what else theyd be willing to give.
One sets you up for a decade of competitive basketball (Love), the other for a 2-3 year run. Give me Love.
Didn't Milsap sign a nice healthy contract this past summer with the Hawks. And you honestly think the Hawks are going to give up on him already especially after making the playoff's with Horford down. LOL Yes sir OP pipedream 101. We do better going after Taj Gipson who I think will be a free agent this off season. I could be wrong
He is a FA after next season. I don't think he's any more of a pipe dream than Love or Anthony. If the Hawks really look at their situation they would know this move would be great for both franchises. Atlanta does really seem to value their mediocrity though, they don't wanna risk it. They get a top flight C, who's still young and would probably be willing to stay long term. They also slide Horford to his more effective position, plus they could get a few other assets from us.
then we are at a cross roads. i believe asik has a high value. definitely better than koufos by a large margin. rockets defense completely going away in 12-13 when asik sat, and no defense when he was injured and howard sat. a giant impact on defense. you have to take position into account.
It won't be hard to find a backup C capable of playing 10-15 mins of solid defense. Our defense only looked so terrible because we had no C without Asik, and Jones is a joke defensively. We will add a true C if Asik is moved, he won't be as good as Omer, but we're only talking a few minutes per game, not 35. Simple fact is that Asik is a luxury here. His value would be much higher to another team than to us. If you can get a guy that will contribute 35 minutes of good basketball it is much more valuable than a guy that contributes 15.
Yeah, it's fine to agree to disagree. I just thought I found a fairly comparable player to Asik (not exact) whose value was much lower in the league than ppl assign to Asik, yet it seems like people just don't like the message so they're killing the messenger (with the 2 star rating of the thread). You appear to be reasonable - how is Asik light years better than Koufos? If you can't show it in stats, it's fine to be relying on the eye test, but it's not fine to have only seen Asik and barely seen Koufos & arbitrarily say there's no comparison. I'll admit - I have not seen much of Koufos, but his numbers look real good & the fact that he started above both McGee and Mozgov tells me he is no slouch.
I agree that Millsap is the better player Overall, but I think Asik could make them a better team, much better defensively and Horford could Play the 4 and maybe can take his game to the next lvl like LMA because Aldridge has Lopez doing all the Dirty work for him. But we have to include picks and Jones or DMO
