Sorry with his leg he can't win any more. How does his Boston rings benefit the Rockets? He sucks at his new job.....
Only if you're really seriously considering yourself championship material. Otherwise, it just means you're probably in the 2nd quartile of the league (ranked between 50% and 75% of the teams in terms of wins). My guess is that the Warrior's owner knows they aren't *quite* there but he wanted to raise the professionalism and coaching pedigree to get to the next level (just like he said, actually). The Rockets? Their owner and GM really knew we had crap surrounding our two main stars and they've always wanted to actively back-fill better role players. We'll see what they do. Anyway, I hear what you're saying, but I don't think either franchise found their first round exit particularly surprising or a "wake up call" this year at least.
ha ha. so it is true. that chic has a nice, long, lean figure. But Marc stepped in shiit with this mess.
When the Golden State Warriors fired Mark Jackson, a move that virtually no one but the front office in Oakland thought was a good idea, there was a big question about how star guard Stephen Curry would react to the move. Many believed that the firing would cause a rift to begin growing between the Dubs and their star but owner Joe Lacob said quite the opposite on Tuesday. Speaking to Warriors beat writer Tim Kawakami, Lacob said that not only was Curry consulted before the decision was made but he supports the decision as well. Per Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News: I think he trusts Bob Myers and the crew at basketball operations. And I think you can answer that question by just asking him. You’ve got to give him more than a day to probably reflect on it. But I think you’ll probably find that he is supportive. http://fansided.com/2014/05/07/nba-rumors-warriors-say-stephen-curry-supports-mark-jackson-fired/
^^ Great. Now the Warriors just threw Curry under the bus for supporting the firing of the coach. Players don't like having any association with coach firings, just not a good reputation in the NBA for some reason.
He had publicly supported Mark though, esp. after the Scalabrine ordeal. I think this is more just Curry also supporting ownership. Hard to choose sides.
Actually, as others have posted, it's just a crap writer at "fansided" who threw Curry under the bus, due to either reading comprehension failure or a desperate plea for clicks. Curry's been very professional, and I think Lacob's statements are fine. Basically saying, if you give Curry some time, he'll support what we're trying to do here.
Thanks. My bad for just reading the blurb rather than the interview. Should have known better than to trust that a "fansided" writer has even basic reading comprehension. I think many coaches get fired for "creative differences" with management/ownership rather than incompetence. Mark Jackson seems to have the trust of the players, and that to me is 90% of the job. The team has also performed well considering the challenges that they faced (injuries). But Lionel Hollins and George Karl both got fired last year and they are fine coaches whose teams won 50+ games. In Houston, Jeff Van Gundy also got fired after a 50+ win season. Rick Adelman got fired after doing as good a job as you can expect with teams handicapped by Yao Ming's injury and cap hit. Sometimes, it's just that the coach and the owner don't agree on how to do things, or the owner just wanting to try something else.
it's definitely changed a lot over the last 10-15 years I think. Owners want to be a lot more active on the actual basketball side of things. I wonder if we'll ever see a Sloan type of long-term coach again in the NBA (or at least for a good long time)? In this case, I'm still a fan of what jackson accomplished with the Warriors, but he was reportedly pretty inflexible with ownership. They wanted him to hire a good strategic assistant, for instance, and he allegedly said 'no' to that.
It isn't just "creative differences", the front office knows that often times it is about the talent on the court. Interestingly, Lionel Hollins was viewed as a poor coach for years before being viewed as a "good coach". Then, he is fired, a rookie coach takes over and the Grizzlies do not skip a beat. The success of the Warriors had FAR more to do with their improved health and quality of players on the team. There is a reason that teams are interested in Steve Kerr (background as an executive), Jason Kidd has had some degree of success, and other rookie coaches with limited experience.
Things have changed a great deal. Coaches have far less control over possessions and play calling. In part because of the rule changes, and the pace of the game, you see more and more delegation to the actual players on the floor. Coaches still have control over substitutions (assuming you have a bench), but it has become very common for players to decide what play to run, when to push it or slow it down, and whom ultimately takes the shot. A handful of coaches have tried to control the defensive side of the equation, but typically that has only worked by completely slowing the pace. Coaches like Jerry Sloan, that had virtual total control are becoming a thing of the past. The Spurs are completely controlled by Popvich, but he has had control of the front office for nearly 20 years. You can see the friction in Chicago, where Thibs and the front office do not get along. In Miami, Riley runs the show, and when the coach (VanGundy) didn't like it, he was replaced. In Indiana, Vogel will be ran out of town.... Scotty Brooks will be ran out of town..... Rivers is new in LAC, but left Boston in part because of the pressure/control of the front office in Boston.
According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, if the Oklahoma City Thunder continue to bottom out and end up firing Scott Brooks, then Mark Jackson could be a perfect fit for the team.
good.. the Warriors will now fall back into mediocrity.. I thought Mark Jackson was doing good things down there. Good luck with Steve Kerr.
Sounds like Mark Jackson lacked game preparation, slacked on practice, and relied a lot on assistants too according to Woj. Don't think he'd be any better than McHale. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--warriors-fire-mark-jackson-after-three-seasons-190640446.html https://sports.yahoo.com/video/why-warriors-fired-mark-jackson-203414902.html Also, Joe Lacob interview on Jackson's firing http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/24553475/joe-lacob-discusses-the-reasons-for-mark-jacksons-firing
B-b-b-but he got that team to 45+ wins Lest we forget, a Houston team comprised of pretty much all brand new players got 45 wins last year (only 2 less than Golden State) and I'm sure no one is riding McHale around here. To the ones that think he was a big difference in turning the Warriors around and want to dismiss the fact that personnel changes helped that team more than who their head coach was the above links are for you to read and dissect. The Bogut trade was the brainchild of Jackson? Please, remember who the Warriors traded away to get Bogut and that was Monta Ellis, the cancer that the Warriors desperately tried to trade to anyone and ended up having to attach their prized young player Udoh in order to move Ellis. And Bogut was injured during the time of the trade so it wasn't like Mark Jackson screamed out "Andrew Bogut is a man on a mission this season. He is an absolute terror right now. We have to get him" FYI, Bogut missed that entire season. The Warriors brass was moving Ellis for ANYTHING at that time and the best they could do was get Bogut and Stephen Jackson. Warriors could have traded either Ellis OR Curry for Bogut Larry Riley says the Bogut-Monta trade dated back to last year's Chicago pre-draft camp in May [of 2011] and "heated up" 10 days before the A-S break. Jackson's questionable assistant coach hirings People on here love to give Jackson credit for the Warriors defense and I'd like to ask "What do you think would happen when you replace a horrible defender at Center with one of the best, when healthy, defensive centers in the league? What do you think would happen when you replace Harrison Barnes with a player that's been on the All-Defensive team?".
Been saying this for sometime.... He also was very hard on his assistants and did not give them credit for the teams success. There are many things that go on ebbing the scene...
Is not OK for Mark to rely on his assistants but Its all ballgame for Mchale. Have you not read the articles of Mchale running those bs practices. I called it before I read that and got told how the **** did I know what practice looks like. The matter of fact is you have to read between the lines and many sheep fans are incapable.
Once your assistant wiretaps you, you lost all credibility. What light came out? Nothing. That asst. was let go.
