This past season, he signed Dwight. That alone should get him a lot of votes. But what other moves did he make? Casspi? Resigning Garcia? Camby? Daniels was probably the only other good move he made after Dwight. The Brooks-for-Hamilton deal was a bust. And he failed to move Asik when he knew from the moment he signed Dwight that he wanted out.

I don't know if the first round flameout was a factor since usually these votes are cast before the postseason. But it will be a consideration next year when they vote on this again(especially since he's keeping McHale around).

Signed Tiago Splitter to a contract that looked like an albatross but is paying dividends in the playoffs

Signed Manu Ginobili to a contract that looked like an albatross but is paying dividends in the playoffs

Kept a core of vets and core of promising young players together and the consistency and mix of youth/experience is paying dividends in the playoffs.

You can't argue with the man's success. When you're the Spurs, sometimes the best moves are to keep things from shaking up. Our Rockets have a pretty flawed roster and no bench depth, so we don't have this luxury. Hopefully we get to this point in the next couple of years.

Probably jealousy due to Howard signing here for nothing.

The nuggets didn't make it out of the first round and their GM got executive of the year but hey let's be consistent.

Daryl Morey has to many overrated international players on this roster to be considered top 5. Too much hype he did great with bringing in Dwight and Harden in so fast.

Not gonna win it the year of the failed Asik auction. Perhaps if that self-imposed trade deadline deal materializes Morey gets props. That move surely rubbed some other execs the wrong way.

Now that i think about it, since only NBA execs vote for this award, we can use the results as a barometer for how the league FO's view Morey.

    Consensus: Not that hot

I think the move was purely a show for Asik's agent. Morey never wanted to trade Asik as soon as his value dropped. He made it clear and essentially killed all trade talk with the deadline leaving Asik no other choice but to be a professional or kill his future earnings.

Getting self-poisoned by two poison contracts does not look good on Morey's resume.

Compounded by the pseudo-deadline drama and him trying to trade those two contracts all season long without any success.

And in the ends its the.....results.

The contrast between the Spurs and the Rocket is like day and night.

One team starts low key all season long, from the management to the stars and makes the biggest noise in the playoffs.

The other team talks all season long from the opening camp (owner, management, players) only to fizzle and not to be heard of in the playoffs.

What exactly did Morey do? He picked up Howard... still a first round exit. Our results were the same as last year. When the Rockets become a force to reckon with on both ends of the court; like the Spurs or the Thunder or the Heat or the Clippers or Indiana; then Morey will deserve it. I feel like Larry bird of Indiana deserves it the most. This board over rates Morey and his insane judgement to pick up a thousand 6'9 pf's. We lack height right now and it shows.

The Houston Moreys on this board beg to differ. Whatever he says is the word of god.
