Rockets should go after a third star. If they do, Bev and Canaan can be chalmers and cole like. Both need to improve though. Carmelo or love. Id prefer love. Trade parsons, Lin, Asik. Grab a 3d wing. Bev Harden 3d Love Howard
Do you seriously think Minnesota would make a trade that would have them ship out Kevin Love and leave them with a pg core of Rubio, Shved, Barea, and Lin?
It makes sense until the Lowry part. Lowry left Houston because he couldn't stand the way Mchale ran the team. Basically Lowry thought Mchale was just clueless of what he was doing. http://l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/z...zenfs.com/en/blogs/sptusnbaexperts/KL7512.jpg
You are absolutely right. Morey didn't wait to see what was going on around the NBA before making this quick decision. Not a good decision by Morey.
Everyone taking about elite PGs and whatnot....what top PG would fit in here as 2nd fiddle next to Harden? Good luck with Harden ever deferring. Remember the whole reason Lin was benched was because he needs the ball in his hands and his skillset overlaps that of Harden. This would be true for most any successful PG. The only PGs that are viable here are non ball dominant Mario Chalmers/Derek Fisher types that are willing to take a back seat.
One more time for the people in the cheap seats: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ot-learning-more-from-kevin-mchale-in-houston
I voted for the Trade Lin and Jones for Rondo, but why is that even an option? No way Boston ever does that
I'll try this one more time Hakeem was best player no question and in many ways was the leader for the Rockets, but the point guards responsibility is to be the floor leader. If you think Patrick Beverley was not the floor/vocal leader for the Rockets then you are wrong. He was the guy who tried to push the team to play better defense and held others accountable for not doing so. The problem however, is that Patrick is not a good point guard and he did not hold players acconutable for anything else but defense!
The only player I'd even think about at the PG position is Rajon Rondo. And that's only if he's fully healthy. 4x All-Defensive team 2x Assists leader 4x All-Star You know what this team sucks at? Defense. Another thing this teams sucks at? Passing the ball. Great passer. Great defender. Unless Boston asks for the farm, will trade for him.
It's because he was the starting PG, learned what it took to win consistently, and played a significant role in a championship season. You may be looking at how many points he scored but I'm looking at how he plays the game. Dude only averages 11pg, 8.5 ast, 4.6 rpg for his career but that is not what you want him for. You want him because he is a battle tested four-time All-Star, one-time All-NBA team selection and a four-time All-Defensive member and a NBA CHAMPION. We need someone at that position who knows about paying attention to the details and holding others accountable like he was held accountable.
You know if we lost Lin or another guard, Steve Blake would fit here pretty good imo. He's a veteran, good ball mover with an above average 3pt shot and no defense...fits the mold right?
How about letting Jeremy Lin actually play the role of PG (and not just in name) before deciding on upgrading or trading him. I'm not sure if he's ever been given an extended time to show his potential in that role. Sure he's started a bunch of games as PG but his role was not as a distributer for the team. Throughout the past 2 seasons we've seen when he's been given the ball to control he racked up high assists and got the offense flowing. Additionally, a lot of his inconsistency this season can rightly be attributed to the inconsistency of his playing time and role on the floor. The narrative for why Jeremy Lin can't be the PG has been that Hardin needs the ball, is the superior player, and their skills overlap. To which some have repeatedly suggested that they can share the ball and responsibility if they tried. Whether that means more effort by the coaching staff, Jeremy, or Harden, it's obvious now that Harden cant and shouldn't be made to shoulder the offense. Even if they bring in Rondo, unless the team changes the mentality and structure of the offense, will the offense really be any better or different? I say first try letting Jeremy lead the offense (not in scoring but as a distributer), before making any drastic changes to team chemistry and creating a lag in team development due to new player adjustments.
Jeremy lacks some key things to be an effective starting point guard in this league. The 2 most vital to me are his lack of handles and lack of vision. You CAN NOT be a good distributer if you don't have these two things. We need to bring in Rondo, the team needs to change the mentality and structure of the offense, yes the offense will be a lot different and therefor much better.
I'm in the hood with Pancho stackin' Rajon Rondo: <object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/55C6NMnnOyI?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/55C6NMnnOyI?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
I don't buy into the idea (usually based on the "eye test") that Jeremy Lin has weak handles and lacks vision. It's similar to the wrong claim that he can't play defense. The idea about his handles comes from what seems like him losing the ball in traffic or when hassled by a pressing defender. But if you get a chance to watch in replays carefully, most of those turnovers/loss of possession were caused by uncalled fouls on Jeremy by defenders slapping his arm or even more blatant fouls. We should all recognize by now, the refs are not kind to Jeremy with foul calls, whether called on him or against him. I think even his teams mates recognize that now. (Do you folks remember when Harden tried to calm down Jeremy near the end of game 3 after he supposedly lost the ball. If you go check the replay it was an uncalled foul by Lillard that stripped the ball and I suspect Harden was really just sympathizing and trying to calm him down). Another meme that is prevalent on Clutchfans is that Jeremy rushes into the fray without a plan and gets caught in the air, causing turnovers. But that very same aggressiveness often leads to spectacular plays if other players are cutting towards the basket and ready to accept the pass. How many times the past 2 seasons have you seen big guys drop nice dimes from Jeremy by the basket because they weren't expecting the pass. Whether that's the fault of the players or an offensive scheme that has gotten players so used to iso's that they are not expecting last minute drops and creative passes, is a question worth asking. But should we expect the PG to play down to that reality and try to be conservative because the offense has gotten so 1 dimensional? Instead, why not have an offense that expects that creativity?
