Are you really going to criticize Mack for disappearing in the MAC title game as a way to support Clowney who disappeared for an entire season?

Not 3 sacks, but Clay Matthews had 4.5 sacks in his senior year and only 5.5 in 47 career college games. Then he went out and had 23.5 sacks in his first 2 years in Green Bay.

Hard to find college stats, especially defensive stats, for the greats.

I just don't think it's going to happen. They can trade down. They can pick Mack. But it's very unlikely that they'll be able to trade down AND take Mack.

And he's apparently the only college pass rusher ever to deal with such. Good to know.

If I wanted to get Mack I would try and approach Cleveland (which I'm sure they have) give up the first pick for the 4th and 27th in this years draft and maybe a 2nd in next years.

Then we can get Mack, and we will have a pick at 27 and 33 which pretty much gurantees us one of the top QBs.

You have to take Clowney. If you pick him, our defense will be really good. I am completely fine with taking a shot on someone like McCarron in the 2nd or 3rd or Murray. We have Case who I believe deserves at least two starts before we let go, and we have Fitzpatrick who is a veteran and seems like a very coachable person. We will be fine. If we don't take Clowney, I think we will be regretting it THIS season.

Mathews didn't play with his hand in the dirt on nearly every down. Also, he e was a backup as a junior and He played Elephant as a senior, a role in which he also handled LB responsibilities.

Very different college roles for two very different players. I don't remember folks questioning Matthews' effort.

It's kind of funny that we're still talking about this. I wonder if there were Colts fans 2 days before the draft talking up RG3 or Brandon Weeden. It's just embarrassing how many people keep trying to argue against the obvious.

As a GM without a lot of safety margin, I just don't think you can afford to pass up Clowney for Mack if you are Rick Smith. I mean, Clowney was so much more hyped going into this process than Mack, and he still is after all is said and done. If you take Mack and Clowney ends up being even just a hair better, that's your job getting the axe. Because everybody and their mother in the mainstream media are putting Clowney ahead of Mack, You're REALLY gonna have to win that bet outright if you make it. Because you're betting against the house. Conversely if you take Clowney and Mack plays just as well or slightly better, most people in the media won't fault you! because you basically followed consensus opinion on draft night. Everybody else was wrong also.

Rick smith certainly does not strike me as the type of GM to have a spine out there. This year less than others.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Lance Zerline (sp) comments from the morning drive today on 790. He didn't name his source , but did say he was a trusted scout from one of the teams picking in the 5- 10. He stated that the scout was told by S.C. Staff that Clowney was a complete diva, uncoachable, and not a team guy. Lance did go on to say that this scout was only providing due diligence by checking on Clowney because their team had no real shot at Clowney anyway, he really had nothing to gain by trying " drop clowney's value".

I think it could all be just pre draft noise but if the Texans do not draft him it probably will be because of something the South Carolina staff has said about him, I mean there doesn't really seem to be any other reason not to pick him.

Because Clowney is the consensus pick by the media and can do no wrong in many fans eyes. Bobby and tmac talk about that guy like he can turn water into wine.

It means we are taking Clowney!

It isn't a big stretch. The owner of the team basically said that he was by far the best player in the draft. I think at that point, you look dumb for not taking him.

Anyone who thinks otherwise should use their eyeballs and have Clowney's combine video going next to Khalil Mack's video. It'll be interesting to see Clowney go into a situation where he has to work to be on the level with the other pass rushers and work even harder to get to the level of the best of them. JJ Watt/Cushing will provide a good atmosphere for him. This one was on the board a long time ago.
