LOL have we even seen Jones play SF? If anything out of his natural position, he'll play Center. McHale pretty much never goes big. Jones has had several 20-10 games on the Spurs, had a 20 point game on the Grizzlies and shot 4/10 vs them 3 times, and honestly, EVERYBODY has played terrible against them at least twice. He's awful against the Clippers. And offensively he had little to no problems against Portland for the most part. It's just the defense and rebounding. Saying bull**** like he can't start for us on a title team, he didn't earn the starting job, or he "can't become a star player" is just a huge reach and fully opinionated and if you didn't know, your opinion is worth ****, expecially if you put this much emotion into your thoughts. Same goes for saying he's a great fit next to Dwight or saying he's a worse PF than Asik or Harden. Same goes for saying he wasn't a "better fit" for the starting lineup. Really all of what you said cannot be measured or even stated in an indisputable form so it's all bull****. I still hope you feel good about spewing those stupid points though.
really just feels like your looking for reasons to hate on the guy. especially without context. he did have noticeable improvements from his 1st year. Ppat didn't truly develop his shot til the 3rd year with the rockets. the biggest concern with him is defensive rotations and boxing out. defensive rotations also seem to be a problem with the team anyways. he's not the only guy making mistakes of this sort. not sure if it's simply him, him being a sophomore (lack of experience), coaching/player development, and some/all of the above. all of the PF's you mention are on teams who are run by good organizations. most of those PFs are also veterans. it just seems odd to harp on him for not matching up with the top 5 players in the PF position in his second year. how much is due to a big experience gap? trading for millsap (if he is included in some sort of package) seems okay. just ok. i think you could squeak more value out of a trade. preferably for a top 5 PF or a major impact player. but him off the bench if the rockets get millsap off a asik+pick trade seems like a good scenario as well. keeping him isn't the end of the world especially if he keeps developing into his potential. getting a PF might not be in the cards this upcoming year, but there could be upgrades at other positions to help mitigate the weakness of not having a top 5 PF.
Have no reason to hate the guy. He's a Rocket. What did I put in there that isn't true? The biggest concern with him is he can't shoot a basketball combined with his defensive rotations and box outs. Yes, a lot of guys struggle with rotations but they usually can hit a jump shot or they're glued to the bench. Jones has signficant deficiencies on BOTH ENDS of the court. That's a recipe for being in Europe or China playing basketball in a couple years. Experience does play a role. But I'm not harping on his lack of experience. I'm harping on his lack of skill set, specifically the skill set we need at the 4 spot to be successful. Once again, for the record, I'm not draftexpress. I'm not real interested in Jones' development per se. I'm interested in what works for this team RIGHT NOW. Because right now is our championship window. Not two years from now when Jones has experience and he has "develooped" into whatever he is going to develop into. Yeah...wouldn't trade Asik PLUS A PICK for Millsap. I'd wait on something better. I would probably consider Asik and Jones for Millsap and a pick though if nothing better materialized. Once again...I don't care if we keep him or get rid of him. What I care is we have the best rotation of players that maximize our opportunity to win a championship.
you been saying to "win now". but development potential is a factor in whether or not a team will keep or receive a player. asik+jones feels like too much for millsap. asik's value went up a lot with these playoffs. he's an elite defender and rebounder at the C position which is pretty high demand in the NBA. you can't look at jones in a vacuum. you have to compare him to other available options (which seem limited) and the return value.
That is true. Look at the other young bigs in this league. Watch this game tonight and look at TRob. He's drastically improved. He's much more explosive than Jones. He's a much better defender than Jones. He's quicker than Jones. Superior rebounder. Now...continue to go around the league and look at young 4's. They're all over the place. Jones simply does not have that much value right now. Here's the bottom line on "developmental potential" when it comes to NBA teams. There's plenty of Jones around the league. Plenty of youngsters, some of them even younger, and many of them with more "developmental potential" than he has. He's only got 2 years left on a rookie deal. His potential has shelf life adn that shelf life is half-expired.
I'd trade Asik/Jones for Millsap. Millsap would provide a ton more for this team than T-Jones would. Millsap has a quick release and is very consistent with it. Jones' play is streaky.. Rockets are in win now mode. If we some how could get a hold of Millsap and Rondo, I think we'd be in great shape to win it all.
thats just too much value to give away for just millsap. maybe if the rockets get a guard in return. not sure how high people are on their guards. with that route, it seems you might get the same comments "X guard can't have a role on a championship team" due to the guard needing development as well.
oh jeez hyping t rob because he's had a couple moment. has a lot of problems too. he might of had a couple hot moments simply because the rockets broke down. maybe their system is utilizing t rob better. the lack of organization in the rockets system makes it tough to evaluate players.
Our guards couldn't attack vs Portland here's why. Are they just driving in like a chicken with their head cut off while players stand around at 3 line, and jones and asik wait for a jumpshot? Or are they getting picks and the player that picks & pops out are Duncan & Diaw who are a threat as a shooter and make a defense react? keep JONES lmao!!!
Insinuating T-Rob is somehow a better young PF than Jones is just shows your true colors. Just stop dude. TRob had a very, very bad season, and if it wasn't for those 2 or 3 minutes in the playoffs people would be talking about how he's on his way out of the league. You talk about JOF being compared to LOF but you are no better and possibly worse than the LOH when it comes to campaigning against a player you love to root against. Its pathetic dude. Your not "keeping it real".... you are stooping down just as low if not lower than the LOH, and the crazy LOF'ers. Sorry dude.... just "keeping it real".
Rank these guys best to worst: Kelly Olynk Jared Sullinger Tyler Zeller Darrell Arthur Kenneth Faried Draymond Green Donatas Motiejunas Terrence Jones Ed Davis John Henson Gorgui Dieng Perry Jones Andrew Nicholson Arnett Moultrie Marcus Morris Markieff Morris Thomas Robinson Patrick Patterson
I Haven't read through this discussion. Before the series began I thought Jones would be exposed. He was. I think he's very overrated and I hope Morey sells high on him.
You literally couldn't be more wrong in your assessment of Doug McDermott. Doug is barely 6'7 with absolutely no lateral quickness and is slower than molasses. Worse still is he plays way too upright in his stance making him even easier to drive past. He's dunked maybe three times in four years in college and is too slow to generate steals. Which position is he supposed to cover at the NBA level exactly? Guards are out of the question and small forward is the single most athletic position in the league so there's another no way Jose'. That leaves us with PF and at 6'7 with gator arms that's not happening either. Jones might not be good, but Doug E Doug is infinitely worse. Saying Doug will be kind of like Larry Bird in terms of defense might just be the most cockamamie comparison I've ever seen on this board. Bird was much bigger than Doug. We're talking actual height and not Creighton's juiced up Church league numbers that won't quite fly once official measurements are taken.
You do know that Randolph is 6'9 to correct. It is not that many 6'10 and above PF's. Yes Jones just needs to bulk up some more and continue to develop his out side shot.
Watch it happen. McDermott is a stretch-4. He'll be a very, very good player in this league for many years. He's too big for smalls to defend. He's too good of a shooter for bigs to defend. He's a total mismatch waiting to happen offensively. What I said was he will be Larry Bird like with his defensive moxy. He'll force guys to go where they don't want to go. He'll take charges. He'll play some decent post-up D. And he'll sneak into the passing lane one pass away, hide and disrupt the play. And if they try to take him outside and burn him...he'll burn them back worse on the other end, take them into the post and pick up foul count. Or if they take him inside and post him up, he'll take them back outside and burn them with his efficiency. McDermott will play 4 in the NBA.
What do you mean by, "thrown to the fire". You do know Jones started around 70 games. He played against elite Power forwards and not so good power forwards. He also started thr 1st yeo playoffs games snd hot torched by LMA and ehen he ended up on Loprx, he got over powerrd on the boards. So let's not act like dude get any mrsning playing time this season. Jones imo played pretty darn solid and will improve going forward.
I'm not gonna argue about jones,I'm just gonna state what I would like to see him do in the off season. Jumper. It doesn't take a lot to be a good shooter. He has good form and he has a dribble which creates space. I would spot shoot him all summer. Just situational shooting. Start at 18ft and work all the way around the perimeter. Spot shooting. He doesn't have to be a 3pt threat to space the floor as a floor. In the playoffs, he caught the ball at the ft line, put it on the floor and finished at the rim. After this summer,if he can knock down that ft line jumper all the way around the perimeter combined with his dribble drive will make him very tough to cover. Defensively,he's big enough and he does need to add strength. Young players don't understand the work you put in before your player gets the ball. Playing against LMA,you have to battle him before he gets the ball.
