I don't think they are locked on, on who they want. ESPN also said their reporters won't be tweeting the picks before it actually happens. I like that nothing has leaked yet. Going to make the draft more exciting to watch.
Clowney is clearly the better prospect than Mack. No disrespect to Mack, but even if you go by what he did vs Ohio st. lets not forget how he disappeared in the MAC title game this past season. Clowney played against left tackles that will have futures in the NFL. Clowney's floor is Mario Williams and Peppers. His ceiling is better than both of them. We have to take Clowney, if not, Rick Smith needs to be canned.
Wow.... One of the most redicilous things I've read in the Texans forum for a while. He might be good but this rhetoric is Reggie Bush all over again. His floor is scrub D lineman and his ceiling is a hall of famer. That's all you know at the draft.
Floor is Mario Williams? Are you sure about that? Maybe his floor is Reggie White? Williams put up much better numbers at NC State is bigger, almost as fast, and much stronger. I guess none of these greats that were unstoppable in college ever faced a coach that was willing to game plan for them? Great players can't help but make great plays because they are driven to win. Given the weak stats last season, the lukewarm work ethic espoused by his coach, and low reps, I have a bad feeling Clowney may turn-out to be a great athlete who doesn't have the drive to be a great player.
I think he possesses the same skill set as Mario but with a quicker get off. Really isn't too absurd. *Ridiculous
I just looked up the MAC championship game because thats one game i hadn't seen and Buffalo wasn't in the game. Mack did nothing in that game. (just being sarcastic) I hope whoever the Texans pick ends up being the correct pick. I'm always wrong anyways. I watched Okoye in college and thought this guy is really good and i hope the Texans get him. Then after 5 games and 5 sacks i thought he was headed for greatness. He just didn't live the game enough IMO. I also thought Mario was the wrong pick with VY or Da'Brick being my choices. I wasn't sold on the Watt pick and so on. So i won't 2nd guess whoever they pick.
Mario was way better in college. I don't know what specific skills they share not Mario's skills (whatever they are) were vastly superior considering how much better he was. It's not debatable and he has manhandled NFL lineman. People **** on Mario but he has been one of the top DL man in the last 8 years.
But saying that his floor is Mario Williams or Julius Peppers is absolutely ridiculous. Perhaps one of the most hyperbolic things said about any of the draft prospects, and we have some pretty crazy fans on here. If Clowney really were that good, there would be no doubt at all as to where he would be going in the draft, and teams around the league would be clamoring for our pick. Which it doesn't seem like they are.
Peppers was a great player! Do I agree with "Harden2Dwight"? Not really, but Mario was wildly inconsistent. They share qualities. I think Mario is a pro-bowl player and expect Clowney to be the same. He is honestly so quick off the snap that it's almost absurd to say he will even be average! Too Talented!
Can anyone think of a Hall of Fame pass rusher who played a full last season and only had 3 or less sacks? Many of the greats played in eras with much less pass attempts, though maybe that's offset by increased adoption of quick throws via the spread and West Coast offenses. Would love to see some advanced college pass rushing stats, such as sacks per pass attempt. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
It does seem like they are! A ton of smoke, lots of scouts saying he has HOF talent. Look, the Texans are taking Clowney, or Mack with extra picks.
Lots to like about this post! Agree with much of it. Watch some YouTube videos, the guy beats one on one blocking consistently. The motor is a very concerning red flag!
If you notice I said Watkins may can be trade bait if the Texans want to move back since it is being reported that multiple teams want to move up for Sammy. But I get your point. Drafting Sammy would be a trash idea and Clowney is the only way to go. Yeap, I'm sure it's multiple teams beating down the Texans door to trade up to draft Clowney since he's the best ever although that hasn't been reported. Like it's being reported that multiple teams want to trade up for Sammy. Lol...
I agree, the Texans should most definitely take Clowney... unless they are offered a stellar trade package, of course. I was just pointing out that his floor is most certainly not Peppers or Williams. That's impossible.
That was back before the rookie wage scale when negotiating with a prospect might play a factor in who you chose. We knew Williams was the pick because he'd already negotiated and signed a contract with the Texans. With the rookie wage scale, that's not really an issue anymore. Also, if the Texans are interested in trading the pick, announcing who they'd take #1 wouldn't make sense because they may not end up picking #1.
