Associate head coaches would sound good, but i doubt you could get a good coach without paying head coach kind of money for one. I also think people take for granted Harden. He is young, and needs a coach to provide mental guidance. I'm not sure McHale could provide that for him though, especially since Harden doesn't seem to respect his coaching ability on court.

If the Wizards sweep the Pacers (VERY POSSIBLE), Vogel might get canned. Snatch him up Morey!

    Ain't happenin'.

    LONG LIVE MILK HAIR.

We can only hope for an excellent assistant to sprout up. Ya know, for the proverbial(?) X's and O's and defenses? Just that.

Parsons and Bev should love McHale who gave them much bigger role than expected, which might get Parsons a 10-12mil instead of 3-5mil per year contract. Harden got all the freedom he could use, but he and Howard may secretly wish a real coach to advance farther in the PO. Lin and Asik should hate him.

I agree. Sampson is being vastly overrated on this board. McHale may have been an even worse head coach without him, but that says more about Milk Hair than it does Sampson.

The Rockets were an average defensive team at best for most of the season. They got much worse when Sampson left, but let's not forget that his departure coincided with the injuries to Bev and Dwight. When you lose the only two decent defensive players in your starting lineup and your team defense is a joke, guess what? You're going to give up a lot more points every night.

The Rockets can go out there and get an assistant coach who emphasizes defense, but I think the root of the problem will remain McHale's inability or refusal to hold his players accountable for not playing D and the Moreyball system which seems a lot more focused on the offensive end of the court.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but I fully expect this team to be exactly the same next season. They'll have one of the top offenses in the league. And they'll be a mediocre defensive club that struggles to get stops and hold onto big leads. That doesn't translate into postseason success.

I'm just curious if you guys that say Sampson is overrated watched Oklahoma games all those years. As a UT fan, graduate, and student during Sampson's time at Oklahoma, I can tell you he is actually underrated. As a UT fan I was looking for an excuse at the time to hate him and I couldn't. His teams were always tough and executed well. At the end of the day, you win because you have the best players, especially in basketball but it seems in college that some guys get results. He had no talent at Oklahoma and always got the best out of them.

I have no problem with Mchale but it couldn't hurt to have a guy like Sampson in the locker room.

Go Rockets, I feel like I still have a hangover.....damn Lillard!

I'm just basing it on what I saw on the court. The Rockets were not always tough and did not execute well every game, particularly on defense.

We may not want Howard in two years.

Seriously, Cyberx is why clutchfans is special. So, thank you Cyberx!

Secondly, it's not surprising that some players (Lin, Donuts, Asik, Hamilton, Casspi, Garcia, pretty much anyone he benched or had a short hook for) would not be happy that he's back.

Bringing someone in who can make defensive adjustments as an associate head coach is a step, BUT, do you know of a successful country or company with two presidents, two CEOs, two big leaders? No. If they're doing this, this is a last ditch effort to "fix" McHale's deficiencies. To me, this is a big sign that this is McHale's last year.

I'm hopeful D12 learned from the last trade demand saga he went through.

He is just starting to lose the "selfish diva" tag, I don't think he wants it back.

It feels like McHale/Sampson was a good cop/bad cop type scenario.

McHale was a players coach type figure that was more of the philosophical leader and Sampson was the guy that held didn't stand for players being diva-ish and focused on discipline and defense.

I think with this group of guys you need both. Like, I could totally see the need for someone to check Harden when he loses discipline, and someone to coddle him a little bit too.

I think getting someone who can be the Thibs to our JVG/Doc Rivers is worth a good 3 wins in the regular season.

    Ugh.

Would rather have Battier, I always thought he would make an excellent assistant coach. I am sure he still has some playing left to do, but one can wish...

Apparently he's retiring after this season. Would LOVE to have him around our squad.

I know what you mean, but Clutch DID vouch for him, and he doesn't have any reason to lie, sooo.....let's just get along. As I stated in my previous post, sometimes I wonder if these leaks are not done intentionally by Morey, so that he can operate in stealth mode.

I used to like it when DocRocket would do his thing, not saying he was legit or not, but boy I had a good time trying to figure out who in the heck he was trying to say was coming in! Good Times...:)

always take public statements with a grain of salt. there might be a lot of doublespeak used in the public announcements.
