Why would S.C. care about Atlanta...??? The S.C. coaching staff are probably just speaking the truth (to the detriment of Clowney) with no concern of his draft stock. Big red flag when his own coaching staff is bad mouthing him.
I could actually give a rats ass who we pick. As long as Rick Smith is in charge I have zero faith in whomever we pick in the draft, especially after round 1.
Considering Atlanta is in the same division with good defensive teams like Carolina and New Orleans _ they better consider getting a offensive tackle before Ryan gets broke off. Clowney can't chase down Cam and Brees throws the ball to fast to even have to worry about him.
Texans can get that info quickly. Our owner went to Carolina- also wasnt the strength condition coach Clowney's coach in SC (for a year) im sure they have plenty of info on him

It went well beyond his coaching staff in general bad mouthing him. When your head coach has negative things to say about you during the season, that throws up the biggest red flag of all. No way teams will look past his character issues as just being a seldom act of rebellion towards one man. It's been well chronicled that this guy has egotistical flaws already. I would understand why teams or the Texans would be leery about drafting the guy.
Sounds like a diva to me... Not to say he can't/won't be a great player. But I wouldn't spend my pick to find out if I was in charge. Everyone is getting knocked down (or having red flags brought up) in this draft not just the quarterbacks.
Seriously- you will pass on a guy that only (supposly comes around every 10 years) noone knows if he will turn out what tthey think he will, but you seriously sucked bad 1 year and were given the 1st round pick to pick that guy. Something is wrong with houston sports teams they never seem to make the common sense/logical decision- the guy is a athlete freak0 just pick him and move on. If a QB you want falls to the 2nd rd you pick him.. Its not a hard decision
if we draft Mack, does reed finally move to MLB? the patriots lineage of defensive coaches, from the SB years, love being creative to their Defensive rotations. they wouldn't hesitate to put arian foster in at Safety if it meant it helped them for a game. Good thing is we won't have to wait that long to see who we're taking. Thursday right? the commissar hasn't moved it to july?
Nope... I would pass on him because I believe Sammy Watkins is the BPA and the best game changer in this draft. The kid is a mix of Julio Jones and Steve Smith and he's the only player in this draft with no questions about his game. The Texans have picked high in the draft 3 times selecting a QB, WR, and DE... And the WR is still wearing a Texans uniform possibly headed into the H.O.F. Sammy is every bit as good (if not better) of a prospect as Dre was when he came out.... How can you pass that up...???
A strong, confident coach would take Clowney if he truly graded out higher than everyone else. You can be a good coach and not want the guy, but a good coach takes that challenge any day.
If we draft Mack, we'll need to find a pass rusher in this draft or in FA because while he'll be an upgrade at OLB, especially in coverage, he's not really a pass rusher unless he's unblocked and he has 0 ability to line up anywhere other than OLB so we'd need to find another DT/DE to go across from JJ Watt in order to generate pressure on the QB. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but it would clearly be a mistake.
This. Unacceptable to go another season wasting Watt's talent watching him get triple teamed with no one good enough to take advantage. Love the idea of trading down to 4 or 6 and getting BPA like Watkins or Mack.
If he is a workout warrior and the staff knows it, then hype and media be damned. Have the guts to pick whoever the staff and scouts rate highest and don't let the media machine make your pick for you. Let's not pretend that freakish athleticism alone makes a great football player. Clowney wouldn't be the first athletic freak to enter the NFL an not make any noise. Nor would he be the last. If Khalil Mack is a 3-4 OLB incarnation of J.J. Watt, then the team has got to get that guy. I'd rather the team have the courage to take who they most want over the public consensus.
