I think the Texans will choose either Clowney or Mack. I don't see them drafting Manziel with the first pick, you have to have big cajones to do that, and I think McNairs are mediocre at best! If they trade down I think it's for Manziel! It would be a big PR move, and as others have already mentioned it's a gamble about potential, with all the top picks anyhow! There is no clear cut #1 this year.

We haven't seen him do it, but he is faster than the backs he would cover, has extremely long arms to go with his height... and it would only be situational from the DE

3 times during the game? Sure why not.

In theory, Clowney can drop back and make like Devin Hester ...

Is everyone ready for the influx of JOFs if we draft JF?

If he does well, no biggie

If he is garbage, they will be making excuses to high heaven about why Johnny is garbage

With the __ pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select Blake Bortles.

Just because he scores like Hester on a test doesn't mean those abilities will translate to the field like Hester's ability translates to the field. We can marvel at Clowney's combine 40 time but on the field with helmet and pads on he couldn't chase down Blake Bortles.

Clowney makes Mario Williams look like a 2nd round pick.

Watching Blake Bortles highlights vs South Carolina.

Came away with two thoughts-Don't draft Blake Bortles

Clowney embarrassed offenses when blocked by one guy.

I just don't think there is ANY POSSIBLE SCENARIO that we draft Manziel. He just doesn't seem like a BoB kind of guy. Cliche, I know. But still true, IMO.

Remember when the Rockets had 3 chances to take hometown hero Rashard Lewis? And didn't? I can see a similar thing happening with JFF.

Funny you say that when Blake threw a TD pass while Clowney was getting blocked by just one guy during the game you speak of...

So McClain has been saying for the past few weeks, if we stick to #1, it's Clowney. Logic tells us that means it won't be Clowney right? Lol

LOL! You obviously are too stupid to sense sarcasm about a pro bowl Mario Williams being taken in the second round in this year's draft if it could happen.

I'm touting Clowneys talent which is top notch. And if you watch, Clowney destroyed that line.

I agree. There are some notable exceptions, but it's almost assuredly going to be a wasted pick.

I started this thread at the beginning of the year: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=249124

In the last 15 years, there have been 114 QBs taken in the 4th round or later and the only Franchise QB among them is Brady. There are a few decent ones as well (Kyle Orton, Marc Bulger, Matt Cassell, Ryan Fitzpatrick), but that's still an awfully low %.

I agree in that if you're looking for a franchise QB and you haven't taken one in the first 3, it's pretty pointless trying to find one after that. Maybe if you're looking for a backup, but not a starter.

And the 3rd round isn't all that great. Wilson and Foles established themselves in the last 2 years, but before that, the best and only decent QB to come out of the 3rd round since 1999 was Matt Schaub. The 2nd round had a 10 year hole between when Drew Brees was drafted and when Colin Kaepernick and Andy Dalton were.

Certainly, not all first round QBs hit, but if a guy is going to become a franchise QB then he's probably going somewhere in the 1st.

I think McClain wants them to take Johnny so bad (and he knows he is always wrong) that he keeps pumping out the Clowney #1 line as an attempt to jinx it.

Either that or I'm not stupid enough to understand your dumb azz sarcasm.

And he destroyed UCF's offensive line ---> give him a cookie. He was still blocked one on one on a TD pass and he had no sacks.

You guys need to lay off the meth thinking that Clowney is a head and shoulders better prospect than Mario and definitely not better than Julius.

The fact is we all don't know. The experts might know more than us but they still don't know. Most of us didn't think Mario Williams would be as good as he was. Most of us didn't know Watt would be as good as he was. So you can't say with certainty that Clowney will be much better or much worse than Mario Williams was. We can discuss what we think and who we would like the Texans pick but let's not act like we KNOW something that everybody else doesn't know. I can't stand when the media puts something in our heads for months before the draft and when it doesn't happen people get outraged. I just hope whatever the Texans do, they get it right.
