When one guy doesn't learn from mistakes and has low ball-iq, its on the player. When the entire team is is like that... its on the coach.

Exactly. I expect the same kind of things to happen next year sadly. Mchale has too much of a nonchalant attitude as a coach for me.

I don't think JVG has any interest in being an assistant coach. For any team.

Probably. At first I thought maybe that he'd be more motivated since this will be the final year of his contract. But it technically was the final year of his deal this past season and he didn't seem to give two sh-ts about anything that was going on out there.

Unless Morey and Les behind closed doors told him all season long that he'd be back in 2014-15 no matter what. That might explain being so cavalier about actually getting his players to play defense.

There has to be a good reason why Mchale is still here. Maybe they were getting Melo or Rondo... but if Mchale is just a puppet under Les or Morey then I have to question this organizations true drive to win championships and why Dwight even came.

I could see Dwight coming here because of McHale if he thought playing under him would make him a better post player. And to that extent, McHale(with an assist from Dream) has succeeded with Dwight. But if he's gonna remain the head coach, he has to help all of the players improve, not just the big men. And obviously he needs to succeed in getting the team to the next level(i.e. postseason wins).

I think Les and Morey want to win. But they want to win their way. They seem to be fully invested in Moreyball and by Morey's own admission, he doesn't feel that the coach matters very much in that sort of system. I think the results of the Portland series(and even much of the last 3 regular seasons) offer evidence to the contrary, but unfortunately it may take another early playoff flameout before this organization finally understands the importance of having a competent leader on the sidelines.

Ohh my ohh my.. Mchale is a heartbreaker in a very negative way... Danggg we stuck with him for another season. JVG was trying so hard to jinx him by choosing rockets to win it all this year but morey doesnt like a real coach. He will miss using coach as his puppet. He wants all the controls. Toughhh luck...:(

Everything you said I completely agree with and understand. I just don't like the fact that the rockets organization is going for a championship in this light versus looking at 94 and 95 a little more closely as a model/example of a more concrete way to win. That was two championships in a row it's not like we are some winless organization that has no clue. I know Dream is not our center but our team was tough and resilient. We didn't play as individuals we played as a team and came up with huge defensive stops. I know even in the 90's we went through our growing stage but this current team I can just see continuing to make the same mistakes over and over never growing up because hardly anything is demanded of the coach, the stars or the role players. Where is the challenge and who is really being held accountable?

Well, those Rockets teams in the late 80's and early 90's were very reminiscent of the current one. A string of first round defeats, including one in 1990-91 when they won 52 games and Don Chaney was Coach of the Year, yet they wound up getting swept by an aging Lakers team(who did go to the Finals that year, but should not have beaten us 3-0).

They kinda hit rock bottom after that. The following year was the fight between management and Dream over his injury they said he was faking. Cheney got fired and Rudy T reluctantly stepped in to take his place. The organization damn near traded Dream to the Heat. And they missed the playoffs for the first time in 7 years. But in the end it forced them to make changes that wound up paying off in the long run.

I sincerely hope 2014-15 doesn't play out that way. I don't wanna have to watch the Rockets go into the toilet before Les cleans house. But who knows? If any sort of major injury happens to Dwight or Harden, this team is screwed. They do not have the mental fortitude to play an extended period of time without their key guys the way the Spurs, Thunder, and Clippers did this season.

Mmmm, practice may help a little, especially we were burned many times. This is not just that one play against LA. We got burned many many times in in-bounds plays during the games.

Wow. To anyone who claims this team just needs more time together, keep in mind that the Rockets played 81 games(including regular and postseason) between that Lakers loss and the Game 6 defeat in Portland. That's a full season right there. And they didn't learn a damn thing from that first loss. They made the exact same mistakes and were beaten by the same shot and by the same final score no less.

Another 82 games ain't gonna matter, Daryl and Les.

The NBA has been around since how long? 1946? The 3-pointer has been around since when? 1979? How many games have been played? How many filmed games are available in the archives for the Rockets to study?

There were 1,230 games played this past regular season alone.

How many books are available on the topic of basketball? How many instructional videos? How many basketball experts are out there?

I mean, really. In today's information age, there's no excuse for not being prepared for any situation, period. These guys get paid way too much for the incompetence that was displayed in the first round.

"But they're young." Give me a break.
