That's correct. I know you enjoy rhetorically mocking people's questions, and you can get a standing O from your comrade (who is usually more rational, but oh well, all boats sink I suppose).... but you could try to answer the (totally valid) questions if you had any interest in conversation or discussion. Yes, we lost in the first round. Okay, you prefer the lottery. I get it. If we're not in the finals, we should be in the lottery. My challenge to you was to make realistic moves after signing Howard, (e.g. not Asik for Millsap -- that was not realistic at all), within the budget (another thing you like to mock for some reason) that would have greatly improved our odds. Take us through exactly what the horrible Morey did not do after, you know, signing the best free agent on the market. I'm seriously ready to read that. But if you just want to act indignant like I'm not a Rockets fan and I peed on your flatscreen TV, or that Morey and I together peed on your flatscreen TV, that's cool too, I guess. If that's what you're into.
Wait, what? Eh, this is my last post in the thread. You had actually convinced me that you didn't like Morey-ball, and I get that. But now you want to be in the lottery instead of having Dwight Howard? That's what your frothing-at-the-keyboard comrade is suggesting now. First round exits with good players = terrible. Lottery = good. Well, I just totally disagree with that. I'm all for a better coach, but I have seen too many teams waste decades trying to hit lottery jackpot. Cheers.
He has to add 2 proven starters PG n PF (don't have to be allstars), after he does that our bench will be better (with Par n Jones), one veteran (would love Paul Pierce) n we're set.
Ya'll need to stop. Morey got us Harden and Howard. He turned a mediocre team to champion contenders. Sure, he made a few mistakes, but he's gotten us this far. We just need a few tweaks on the team. Rockets fans my ass. Ya'll bandwagoners need to hop on Heats/Pacers/Blazers jockstrap.
The part I bolded was the one that I was applauding. But since we are on the topic, The fact that we didn't tank for a lottery pick those years prior to Harden still kind of bother me. Two of those 14th picks we just threw away too (Royce/Morris). I would rather have been ****ty and had a good shot at someone like Anthony Davis. Don't kid yourself, the reason Les is so opposed to tanking is because he doesn't ever want to go into loss for a season even though its the best thing long term. All the franchises that have won have openly tanked for a bit. Lastly, As rockets fans, we're pretty adept when it comes to first round losses. Its safe to say that they are pretty damn demoralizing. Its a waste of a season. Contrary to the extreme stance---where anything not a championship is a waste, I think a team should win at least 1 series. IMO, not too much to ask for.
I gave him a 7 Took off 1 points for not removing McHale at the end of last year and now. Took off 1 point for those two back ended contracts. How in the heck does he intend on getting rid of those two god awful contracts?????? I understand the reasoning behind why he did it but seriously -- who's going to take on those two contracts. Took another off for trading Kyle. I know everyone loves Dragic but I would have preferred Lowry
There should be a thread about: Will Morey be able to build a dynasty given his playoff record so far?
The argument that a team should build through the draft over going all out to acquire star players is a bad one. I did an empirical analysis last year here: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=227951 Essentially, building the the draft through lottery picks is REALLY risky. Morey uses a smart process which is the most important thing. He's had to burn all of his assets in acquiring his two stars. This offseason we'll have the MLE and a first round pick to work with. Given the great supporting cast he built around Yao and Tracy, I have no doubt he'll do the same for Dwight and James.
Building through the draft is risky for sure but it also gives small teams like OKC and San Antonio opportunities to draft stars and have them for cheap in their early years and still keep some of them if they do it right.
Suffice to say the 200+ people that voted 1 are because Daryl is keeping Jeremy 'captive" and didn't get a new coach.
I give him a 6 because we are perennial first round exiter under his charge. I know he was given a hard situation to manage but still he is hired to solve the issues. If he failed to do that then no matter what excuses one can find for him, he is still a failure. He sure had done something spectacular or had made some magical trades, on paper, but I always think that he cannot seize the big picture I mean strategically he is not very good. I hope he would prove me wrong.
Th morey hater gave him an 8. I would've gave him a higher score if he didn't make the dummy move by letting dragic go and signing lin. Good job. Hopefully he continues to upgrade the roster.
