Remember this game in the beginning of the year? Obviously Mchale and the rockets didn't. We were up 98 to 96 with just seconds to go and Steve Blake gets wide open off a screen and hits a game winning three. The Lillard three ticks me off even more knowing we have been here before but we didn't learn anything from it. What makes anyone in Houston believe Mchale is capable of teaching or getting this team any better. He hasn't proved he can do it and this is just more evidence of that fact. Sorry to keep bringing this up but it really has ticked me off and messed my weekend up.

Why didn't rockets learn from this?

In the words of Coach Nick... "The regular season is for learning, SMH."

Steve Blake isn't all-world but he would be an upgrade over Lin. He knows how to run an offense and he's improved his outside shot quite a bit over the years. The main difference s that he has a quicker release than Lin and doesn't need much room to get his shot off.

Rockets team never learned. They need to practice defending the inbound pass for the summer. Practicing reading and helping player that got screened...obviously they haven't put any work into it as they still can't defend Lillard. I think the problem is not really helping out the man that got screened. They need to understand body positioning. Why are you putting your body in a position so other player can screen you?? WHy can't you fight over it before they even inbound the ball? That's something that they need coaching because obviously they're stupid.

Welp... it really is eerily similar. Cutter comes to the ball. We have a weak ball presence mostly concerned with the post area. Cutter comes free off a couple of screens around the arc and wide open.

Interesting. So many things that could've happened differently that could have affected that play. I would have taken anything over the open look in both of these cases.

I remember after that game, Yao was saying that when he play for JVG, Van Gundy would not let a defense lapse like that happen. Wonder what does it take for JVG to come back to the Rockets even just to be an assistant to coach the defense. Base on all his positive comments and prediction that the Rockets will win it all this year, he apparently still love the Rockets.

It is eery to watch that again after all this time. The play is so much like the end of Game 6 it's frightening. Blake from almost the exact same spot completely uncontested and the identical final score.

It goes to show what we've been saying all along. This was at the beginning of the season. And McHale never corrected this problem over the next 6 months. We see what happened as a result.

You better believe the Portland coaching staff knew how we played last-second inbounds in the regular season.

    EDIT: here it is, imbedded

EDIT2: LOL @ how open Blake is in that first frame of the imbedded video. And LOL @ Harden flat-footed holding his man. Oy vey!

Wow, If Dwight didn't notice at the end it would have been Blake all by himself with no one on him, unbelievable, is it really hard for any rockets player to defend their assigned player...???

Don't know how big the role of the coach is in that situation, especially when it has happened more than one time.

The coach can only do so much when the players apparently don't learn from mistakes and have a low ball-iq...

Yea I noticed that too. Isn't holding someone a foul? Looked like Lin wanted to roll over to D Blake, but Nash held him in place.

I guess he's got the veteran wiles to know to hold Lin when he knows the officials aren't watching.

Statistically these one point losses are almost equivalent to one point wins. Just a coin flip. So who the hell cares about one measly possession. The sample size is too small to have any bearing. McHale for life!

In the LAL game, why was Chandler so far from the inbounder???

I remember the Monta shot. That was my question to? Why did Chandler close into the lane and lose his own man?

Of course in the POR game, it was Chandler again.

Btw, our guys aren't taught how to fight over screens??? Or even avoid screens in the first place?

Our late game defense is just awful. Embarrassing. And it's totally on the coaching staff, it's obvious that guys have no clue what they're doing out there.
