We don't need a "superstar" who can't handle discipline. Without discipline and -what's the name?- Oh yeah, gameplan no rings !
Do people judge McHale based on the 5 seconds of the huddle that ESPN/TNT shows us during games? I'm pretty sure the team wouldn't have made it this far with McHale saying "play harder" during every timeout. Is there some inside information I'm missing that shows McHale doesn't do anything besides repeat the same one-liners that everyone accuses him of? Obviously he hasn't done an amazing job these past few seasons, but sheesh, have some substance to your anti-McHale arguments.
I wonder if they're giving McHale the Spoelstra treatment after not winning it all the first time around. Then again, McHale has FAILED in all aspects playoff-related since his time here. Even the first year, with a gem in Lowry, McHale blew our chances because he didn't understand the impact Camby and Sam had on our defense during our last couple of games. Maybe Morey doesn't want to pay more for a better coach. But damn, there are so many. Shoot, Doug Collins sounds better to me coaching on TV. McHale may be one of the "homies" but he hasn't won everyone over. Some of our louder voices haven't bought in. IMO, it is understandable. I'm still getting over the pain of game 6. This burns even more. Never have I despised a Rockets coach for incompetence. I only despised the likes of Jerry Sloan, Phil Jackson, George Karl (when i lived in Denver). Our "coach" is just not equipped for this specific roster, the job or the expectations. As a player, he was amazing, As a coach, in my opinion, a huge disappointment. Even if Morey claims that coaches are only responsible for like 5 wins, at least the majority of them help their team claim an identity. We didn't have one, largely because McHale had no control/ adjustment flexibility. He was busy being friends with everyone.
I'm sure this has been stated, but it needs to be reinforced: McHale will not get fired until Dwight himself is fed up!
Spoelstra is a coach that is constantly under the guidance and watchful eye of Pat Riley. McHale has no such leash. As previously stated, unless Howard and Harden decide that they can't play for the man, McHale's job is safe.
I already posted this but i'l say it again because it actually makes a little sense to me. If Morey will add another star this offseason, or at next years trade deadline, or even next off season, it would be wise for him not to give any particular coach a long contract right now. If we were to get a third star (like Rondo, Melo, Love etc) we might want them to be part of the decision of hiring the new coach along with Harden and Howard. Make sure the player would get along with the coach and would want to play under him for the next 3-5 years of his career. McHale's perfect because we pick up his option, and he's gone next offseason, we'd have our third star and we'd be free to sign a new coach with the 3rd stars input. Crazy longshot theory but its possible IMO.
Dough Collins, Larry Brown, Jerry Sloan, JVG/SVG. Bill Simmons even... McHale is regular spoken shiiit about because he sucks.. Other coaches know he's incompetent.
Fantastic, wonderful move. I'm sure he's learned to not defend the inbkunder with that little time left anymore. That's our only weakness anyway.
Great post Sir I think Morey is keeping him because of our statistical percentages were off the charts offensively. He will be looking for another defensive minded coach during the offseason because as we all seen once Sampson left McHale was clueless when it came to defense.
Spoesltra went to the Finals the first year of the Big 3. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt going that far. McHale lost in the first round. No reason for McHale to return. Absolutely none.
Wish we could get Doug Collins, he has a balanced approach to the game and can draw up plays. If McHale had the same coaching Mind as Doug he would be a beast.
Yeah I mean theres the old saying "if it aint broke...." in regards to the offense, and defensively (DURING THE SEASON) the Rockets really improved dramatically this year in the half court. I think the effects of losing Sampson were pretty blatantly obvious. That guy was really running the show, and probably has was the primary voice in practices hammering home their defensive assignments. I think its pretty obvious that McHale is a bottom 10 coach on the level of a Vinny Del Negro or Kurt Rambis, but that doesn't mean that the Rockets system on both ends are bottom 10. People need to consider this when criticizing Morey for this decision. If you bring in a big personality like a George Karl or even a Van Gundy, you are more than likely changing the system on both ends which is something that Morey and co. feel pretty strongly about since its the system and strategy the specifically wanted in the first place, and have had some success with this year. My guess is the Rockets front office just really wants to give this system another year to see how they can improve with another year together, and want to see the impact of just bringing in another impact assistant.
me texting my GF : mchale is coming back baby SMH ! My GF reply on text : Oh no! Well there goes the championship year I thought they could have next yr. They're just going to get rid of quality players like the rockets always do who will be good players on other teams. And the rockets will continue to be an almost good team.
