With how the Rockets play, it seems they'd need a PG who can shoot. Rondo cannot shoot. Even his FT% isn't great. On a team where Dwight Howard is bad at free throws, the rest of the team has to be really good at shooting FT's to make up for it. Another sub-par FT shooter would suck.
It seems that we have many players who are bad shooters, unlike Clippers, who have many skilled shooters. The Rockets better sign good shooters and trade bad shooters.
You don't get Rondo or Carmelo without giving up Parsons. It's going to cost Lin/Asik/Parsons/Picks for one of them, and I'd rather have Carmelo. I'm not sold on waiting for Love, because he might already have his eyes set on LA. I think Morey has to go after the first star that's available, with only health and age being red flags.
how about aiming at Napier at the draft? but we need established players..no more time for developing players..DH is not gettin' any younger...
Add to the list that Rondo is an amazing playoff performer. Some nights in the playoffs he goes off and suddenly finds a shot. He's a gamer.
Considering what just happened to the Rockets in the 1st round, it shouldn't take much convincing that the Rockets with Rondo would be MUCH better.. Only I don't want to give up Asik... We need him.. OR a better PF
We don't need Asik at $15 million. We can find someone else that can play tough. We can sign a younger more athletic big man type.
We don't need Asik. Dude is great, but the Rockets have much bigger holes than their backup center spot. I'd gladly ship Asik off if it meant an upgrade at PG or PF.
Parsons, Lin for Rondo (something like that)... and Asik, D-Mo, Canaan for Paul Millsap (etc) Morey has to do something like this to improve the core of this team. This could free up cap room for upcoming FA periods suchs as 2015 and 2016 while keeping the nucleus of Howard and Harden (with the likes of TD, T Jones, Beverley, etc..)
I've heard that rondo is a very introverted type of person. He usually kept to himself, which caused locker room problems in Boston. I don't think rondo's personality would mesh well with Howard and the rest of the team.
Basically, we need him or a better PF, which is why i said OR better PF. Love would be great now that we know Aldridge is out of the question. I'd rather give up Parsons and other pieces for Rondo, and trade Asik for that missing PF that can spread the floor and grab boards..
http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2013/12/15/rajon-rondo-has-future-coaching/LjRCsv7NAkkxnrFRV6iCIJ/story.html Great article on his personality. Personally I see him as that high IQ guy that's kinda cocky about it. Know it all? Maybe, but you can't deny that that intellect (basketball and off court) and that nastiness would have been welcome on this team during the playoffs.
Wouldn't mind Lowry or Rondo but a big priority needs to be 3&D wing off the bench. That position was atrocious this whole year and caused Harden and Parsons to play excessive minutes the whole season
Also the biggest knock on Rondo isn't actually a knock. "He can't shoot, they just leave him open." Well that's true. But what will happen is if you give him enough time to create...he will. So what actually happens a lot of times is what the other team is doing is just giving him more room to operate. He'll just drive in the lane and get someone else a better shot. That's why he has those crazy assist numbers sometimes (where he'll have more assists than points) teams leave him open and it doesn't work out as planned. I remember Kenny Smith said something about it one time. He said as a PG sometimes the best thing to have is all that space to create and operate
Say yes to Rondo, at any cost! Well, not for H-H, obviously. But it's a no-brainer, it's not whether we want Rondo, but rather whether Celtics are going to give him away for Asik, or Lin, plus Parsons and whatever, or Asik and Lin. So, it's really pointless having 300 pages to discuss whether we want him.
