I just don't get it. Coaches who have done more in regular season and playoffs will be available this off season and McFail gets another year? What has he shown to warrant getting another chance? This team far too often looked like they weren't even being coached out there. That last play with Lillard winning the game was a microcosm of the Rox whole season, filled with confusion, lack of adequate defense, etc. By the time McHale waste another year, some of the better available coaches will probably be taken. McHale showed how a coach can hold a team back no matter what talent the team has. This move is going to hurt Harden the most. Since Harden has been in the league, he has had bad head coach (Brooks now McHale) and he could have possibly grown more as an overall better player. This is really a down time and feels like this organization is in limbo right now.
If Morey agrees to this, then it's more important for him to control this team than to have a coach with X's and O's. You'll ruin this team and this fanbase, Morey. You'll be laughed out of this league.
I think it's time for the Rockets to find a new head coach. Someone who can bring a little more structure. If not, as others have said, they should look for a really talented assistant coach.
Looks like Morey values intellectual hubris over winning... This is the man that so many see as brilliant...?
Summary of MaFail's coaching instructions: 1. Lin brings the ball to the front court then let Hardeen do ISO if possible. 2. Pass the ball ball to Howard once a while to make him happy. 3. Bev. must defend like a dog. 4. If nothing work out till 3 seconds, pass ball to Lin to make him take all the blames!
as arrogant as he was, jtr did actually post content and opinion about the thread topics….and not just exclusively nonsense about the posters he disagreed with. this troll is a waste of bandwidth on this forum.
Ok, let me try to explain this again despite being "clueless". Doc Rivers in his first year as a head coach was handed a team of scrubs. We're talking 2014 Sixers here. Orlando was setting aside cap space for the 2000 offseason for their run at T-Mac, Grant Hill, and Tim Duncan and nothing was going to get in the way of that. All Doc did was coach that team to a 41-41 record when everyone thought at best they'd win 20 games(kinda like what Hornacek did this year with Phoenix only Doc had even less talent). It was a remarkable achievement and he deservedly won Coach of the Year as a rookie coach. After that, yes, Orlando lost in the first round the next 3 seasons. I would argue however that Doc wasn't exactly given much to work with. He had T-Mac(who BTW wasn't exactly known for winning playoff series) and a hobbled Grant Hill who hardly ever played. That was about it. The supporting cast was a joke since so much cap room was tied up in 2 players, one of whom was in street clothes most of the time. Afterwards, Doc landed in Boston. And yes, they lost in the first round his first year there and then stunk for 2 years. But keep in mind that Danny Ainge is a guy who has no hesitation to tank seasons in order to get higher draft picks and rebuild more quickly. He's basically the anti-Morey in that respect. And it worked out. He stockpiled assets, parlayed them into Garnett and Allen and the Celtics then won 66 games and won the title. They might've repeated had Garnett not gotten injured the following year. And then the year after that they came within a quarter of a 2nd title. So I'd say Doc's resume speaks for itself. He proved in his first year on the job he could coach and when he was finally given a talented roster, he delivered a championship. Now Rick Carlisle. His first two seasons as a coach, he led the Pistons to the 2nd round and then the Conference Finals. Keep in mind that franchise hadn't won squat since the Bad Boys era. Grant Hill never had any success there. Then Carlisle was summarily fired. Maybe the players didn't like him. Maybe Dumars just thought Larry Brown was a better coach. But either way, Carlisle was dumped, but he more than proved himself in his first two seasons. He then landed the following season with the Pacers. He also led them to the Conference Finals. Two straight seasons he got two different teams that far. Pretty damn impressive for his first three years as a coach. Then the following year, the whole thing fell apart. If you don't remember why, I'll give you a 4-word hint: MALICE AT THE PALACE. Once Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson nearly started a riot in that game against the Pistons, the Pacers franchise never recovered. Was that Carlisle's fault? Of course not. But after those players were suspended, things were never the same. And BTW, he still took the Pacers to the Semifinals that year. So I think Rivers and Carlisle both easily proved from the very beginning that they could coach in this league. Juxtapose that with McHale who has never accomplished anything as a head coach in the NBA. He stunk in Minnesota. And his tenure with the Rockets is underwhelming at best. He choked away a playoff spot in 2012. He choked away the 6th seed in 2013 and wound up with the 8th seed and OKC in Round 1. Although I'll give him credit for at least making that a competitive series. And now this year he took a team with Dwight Howard and James Harden and home court advantage and got the exact same result as a year ago. A first round loss in 6 games. Sorry, but McHale has yet to prove he's got what it takes to be a quality head coach. Maybe one more year is all he needs. Maybe Morey knows what he's doing and we're all "clueless". But then again, maybe as fans we know how precious these opportunities are when you get two gifted superstars in their prime(*cough* T-Mac & Yao *cough*), we know they can end prematurely when you least expect it, and we don't want to see it go to waste.
You're representing a stamming, stuttering incompetent that hasn't the balls to discipline anyone... (McHale says "stay with your man", Harden says, F that, switch!) And you feel endowed with the right to question anyone's spine or masculinity...? Hilarious...
