A whole world of stupid here. Knicks will not trade Carmelo for Lin, Jones, and a 1st round pick. That is a putrid trade idea. It would have to be Lin, Asik, Parsons, and 1st rounder at minimum.

I blame Morey for all the delusional fans, kept dreaming of ripping off other teams, year after year, in all knee-jerk post season threads.

We do have a lot of problems, but who doesn't? We need to have clear priorities, have the top 1 or 2 resolved first, then one at a time. Can we stop the fantasy of "getting other teams' unhappy stars PLUS quality role players" for our perceived dead weight/garbage?

Morey has done lots of trades, but steals for some serviceable role players, doesn't mean you can steal stars and high quality stars altogether. In this market, you really need to use quality to get quality, and overpay for qualities. Look at Dallas, how long they have been tried and how long they have been overpaying, and finally got lucky with a small window of opportunity. Blazers is having a nice group, but look how long they have sucked and tried to accumulate young talents. Bulls have tried forever after MJ, and one shot knee started them over again.

Stars, a very good coach, veteran leadership, overpaid good players, young talent with drive and potential, plus a lot more patience and consistency. It's really about time to have more than 2 players on your team for 4-5 years or even more. Stop the whole new roster every single year craziness. Even machines need to gel, not to mention human beings.

H-H are staying for sure. Identify your core, and build upon that, but stop this garbage out and garbage in lateral trades for the sake of trading.

Obviously first would be to find a new HC (SVG please?) after that I would work on adding a legit PG somehow I would really love to have Lowry I think he would be absolutely perfect for this team.

The PF spot is still an issue that needs to be resolved. I think the best options to go along with the hypothetical lineup of Lowry,Harden, Parsons and Howard would be Millsap or Ppat. I really don't want to break up Parsons, Harden or Howard I think this will make them hungrier. I do want to keep Bev as well he would be perfect coming of the bench.

After this we need to work on depth. Lin, Asik, Hamilton, Garcia would all be gone. So we would need to adress the depth issue not to sure who's available or any of that but guys like Nate Robinson, Jordon Hill or Deng.

Idk it's still too early to think about but all I know is **** the Blazers and McHale needs to go

Reading a lot about Lin's value and keeping Asik. I just cant see either being in the cards for anything more than a trade deadline deal. Current roster payroll is $57M, which spikes to $72M next year, of which 66M is split between Howard (21M), Harden (15M), Asik (15M), and Lin (15M).

Given the financial situation, we absolutely have to trade atleast one of the two (Lin or Asik), and Asik would be easier to trade, atleast one would assume, given the dearth of quality big men in the league. Once we get that cap number lower, you'd have to think the team works on extending Parsons from his current rookie deal and pursuing FA's to fill holes. I cant see Lin restructuring his deal given how much he's due (he'll make more than Harden next season in salary if nothing changes), so you'd have to assume the team will work hard to dump his salary off, though my thinking is he'd be better as a trade asset at the deadline for a team looking for an expiring contract.

You guys saying Hollins should be our coach... Y'all realize he's not in Memphis because of his unwillingness to use analytics...? He wants nothing to do with Morey

I think people are starting to confuse JVG's vaunted defence for pace. The Rockets had insanely low points allowed, but not necessarily because the defence was amazing, but because the pace of the game was so damn slow. No fast breaks, pounding the ball in on every possession, it was some of the most boring basketball in the world.

I'm not saying JVG's defensive schemes were bad, they were excellent, it's just that pace factor is a huge part of that defensive, and we will need to give up our good offense for that.

You know if the Rockets trade for Rondo, the Celts would want Asik, Bev, and either Tjones or Dmo...

Btw, PJ Tucker is a free agent along with Shawn Marion.

Oh, upgrade assistant coaches now that we know McHale is coming back. And send McHale to coaching school.

Not sure if Atlanta would do itthis way, but for either Millsap or Hortford straight up for Asik. Works tradewise we get more talent in the paint can use Lin in a trade to build our bench and use the draft to do the same. Hortford for Atlanta folks has recently been injured quite a bit and he's always rushed back to play. Maybe the extra rest will do him some good and we can buy low. A side note Dennis Schroeder is a guy I would really look at trading for here as well. He's playing behind Jeff Teague, but looks to be a starting caliber point guard.

If the Rockets were to make Parsons a restricted free agent this summer by declining his contract and then matched whatever offer he was given (say 8-10 mil), would they be able to immediately turn around and trade him or would they have to wait a certain amount of time?

If they could trade him immediately after, this would give the Rockets even more salary to send out in a trade in order to match salaries. This would let the Rockets trade just two of Lin, Parsons, or Asik for 8.3mil + Parsons 8-10mil + 125% out in order to match a big contract such as Melo's or Love's. The Knicks might prefer this over having to take on Asik since he would be redundant with Tyson Chandler.

I don't know if it is even possible to match Parsons and then immediately trade him and even if it is, it could be seen as a sort of mistreatment by the organization. Can you imagine Parsons signing a contract with a contender, to be matched by the Rockets, just to end up with the Knicks? That would suck for him.

Coaching staff. Get true shooters. I'm not a fan of read and react, but when Harden drives in, he needs to have someone there to make the double team pay.

I think we should go after Darren Collison... He's a good young PG playing behind Chris Paul... I just hope the Rockets don't throw idiotic money his way like we've done in the past....

Exactly! Otherwise, it's a one-and-down affair all over again, no matter what roster moves.

Free agents that intrigue me and could be a realistic option

Tier 1: Chris Bosh (if Lebron leaves)

Tier 2: Kyle Lowry, Luol Deng,

Tier 3: Avery Bradley, Spencer Hawes, Marcin Gortat, Danny Granger, Trevor Ariza, Thabo Sefolosha, Jordan Crawford, Shane Battier, Mike Miller

Harden and Parsons cannot be the starting wings on a championship team.
