I'm not gonna argue, because its plain dumb at this point with only few days left till the draft. Opinions aren't gonna change, but if Texans do get him in a trade down or at 2.1 if not with the first pick they will have to build a team around him. Obviously, he can't start right away even if he is 1st pick. I would rather sit him a year or two and protect the future in a long term than please the fans.
Perhaps, or perhaps the D would have let him down like they did back in 09/10. We had a fundamentally flawed defense last year that couldn't get pressure on the QB unless it was JJ Watt doing it all himself. That needs to change.
Yeah and thats why i'm not buying a quick turn around season for Texans. Too many flaws across the board, but they are also easy to fix through draft and free agency. Than again in 2 years AJ and Cushing will need to be replaced due to age soon and i think Brown needs to be resigned as well. I think this team needs 2 to 3 years
I find it completely strange that it hasn't been leaked who they are taking. This Texans organization sucks when it comes to leaking information. I think trading back when you have a chance at a game wreckler like Clowney is ridiculous, unless of course, you are sold on a QB.
Same here. This 2 week extension can't be good for the NFL. They now have to compete with the middle of the 2nd round of the NBA playoffs and we are clearly at a point of diminishing returns when it comes to draft talk. Scheduling conflict or not it needs to go back to the last weekend in April. Any increase in ratings will be fools gold because it will have more to do with Clowney and Manziel than anything else. NFL needs to start watching for over-saturation of its product or they will end up proving Mark Cuban right.
The Texans won't trade down. I don't think McNair has the balls to do it. I think they pick Clowney, because he's perceived to be "the safe choice". If Manziel or Bortles is still on the board when Atlanta picks, maybe they trade down, but I doubt it. But I still think Manziel should be their number one target.
Listen to enough people and you'll believe that no QB in this draft can start right away. I read something today where it was said that Teddy Bridgewater, once thought to be the most NFL ready QB, really needs a "redshirt year" at the pro level and that's why his stock has fallen. Yet it's almost universally acknowledged that Blake Bortles isn't ready to start day 1 yet his stock has done nothing but rise. And then you have a guy like Manziel, the only one of the top 3 to not play in a pro style type offense in college and the guy who'll likely be asked to change his game the most at the next level.
I hope it is. You hope Cleveland is set on Derek Carr at 4. Mack or Manziel needs to be there at 6, or they will stick with Clowney at 1.
I think the Texans should trade the pick, pick up Mack 1.6, Pick up Bridgewater or McCarron 2.33, and Allen Robinson with the additional pick from the trade. I think we should get rid of Andre while he has gas left in his tank and still holds a lot of value, and let him have a chance to win a superbowl with someone else. Allen Robinson was in an article comparing him to Andre and I can see the resemblance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrV19HYDCnk
Cleveland will draft Manziel if Manziel is still on the board. He's talented and electrifying. He would excite the fans, the media, and instantly wash away years of disappointment. He's also a winner. No owner is going to pass up that much good will, except Uncle Bob. Aren't we so lucky to have him for an owner!
He'd excite the fans and instantly wash away years of disappointment in order to prepare them for the years of disappointment ahead of them.
Drafting Manziel would be career suicide for BOB. Every one of VY's failures in Tennessee that couldn't be ignored was blamed on a conspiracy by Jeff Fisher to stick it to Vince. I know there are still tons of you out there who will still say that Vince would have been a hall of famer but for Jeff Fisher sabotaging him out of spite and jealousy. Every misstep by Manzell would get transferred to O'Brien. He doesn't need that. Also, I remember hearing about the Texans' fatal blunder, and how everybody was going to drop the Texans in their own hometown and become Oilers/Titans fans. How's that worked out?
Yeah I didn't even think about that. When Manziel busts, Aggies will blame it on everyone but Manziel.
If they don't draft Manziel because they think he sucks or isn't a good fit, that's one thing. But if they avoid him because they are worried about the fallout if it doesn't work, the front office's priorities are all messed up. You don't draft out of a fear of failure.
It seems pretty common that people approach drafts assuming they are perfect talent evaluators, until proven otherwise. I think that is a mistake. The truism is, "plan for the best, prepare for the worst". There aren't many teams that hit 100% in the NFL draft. Contemplating and planning for all eventualities seems to me more wisdom than fear. Whomever the Texans draft, there are no guarantees. For me, you weigh risk vs reward on Manziel and both the cost of failure and the chance of failure add up to something that would require one hell of a reward to offset.
I think I'm good with not taking a QB 1st... If we can get Clowney AND a solid QB in the 2nd or 3rd round, I'll be thrilled
