It's because they have the ability to hold high positions of office in this nation. This is no random crazy nut job. He is the CHIEF JUSTICE of Alabama.

I mean this ****er is the CHEIF JUSTICE of Alabama and is actually contemplating the notion that the first amendment only applies to a certain group of people. Even the most right wing posters on this board have to acknowledge how dangerous this man is.

I'm an atheist but I didn't see anything dangerous or that would even warrant a likening to the Taliban. In fact if I'd seen more of this than the Assembly of God freakouts mom started dragging us to after the divorce, I probably might at least still identify as Christian.

You don't see anything dangerous about a cheif justice of a state wanting first amendment protection exclusive to one group of American citizens?

Lol... Not the "Well then you can get out" line:rolleyes:
Something so ridiculous and common that South Park makes funny references to that statement all the time.

Literally when you said that I just imagine a fat redneck douch bag saying it.

You underestimate the power of ignorance, party lines, and GOP talking points.

The fact that a chief justice of any state who's sole purpose is to uphold the constitution believes that the first amendment should be for a certain group of citizens only should worry any rational American.

His purpose is to uphold the state constitution. And he's talking at a rally, not writing an opinion with clerks, opposing counsel, attorneys general and appellate federal courts to reign him in.

Except the State Constitution of Alabama cannot supersede the US Constitution in regard to the First Amendment.

Even if he is just speaking off the cuff this is still troubling that he would see these concepts in such a limited manner and one that goes against the intent of the Amendment. This is like Donald Sterling saying something privately to his GF that while he still has hired and paid minorities those comments certainly haven't made anyone in the Clippers and NBA feel comfortable about Sterling.

So if the Chief Justice of MA Supreme Court said that he didn't think the First Amendment should apply to the Tea Party would you consider that much doodoo about nothing?
