No reason to defend the inbounder, not with .9 seconds left. The 5th defender should have been facing the action and defended whoever came to the ball. So you make the pass more difficult? Who cares? Somebody is going to get open on a screen and whoever that is will have to immediately fire it. Coaching error. Again.
Lillard, obviously, will outrun Parsons to get the open shot. Parsons length on Lillard would only have mattered if Lillard had caught it standing still...which with 0.9 left wasn't going to happen.
It doesnt matter who was guarding who. With everyone setting hard screens, SOMEONE was going to be open. There had to be help, and there wasnt. Instead we were attempting to defend an inbound pass that could only go to about 60 square feet of area.
Parsons shouldn't have been chasing Lillard in the first place, if you get screened you switch. A varsity squad would have defended that play better than we did.
It doesnt matter who is defending, they were going to have to get through a hard screen coming to the ball, that is the only option. As soon as he got free he should have been met by a defender.
Lillard is the LAST PERSON you want to get the ball! He's known for making big shots. He got the ball TOO EASY. That's why McHale needs Sampson. Can't draw up an important defensive play to save his life!
youre exactly right why would you put someone on the ball? dumb Jones shouldve had his back to the inbounder and wouldve denied lillard... just stupid coaching
When ever Dwight was defending the inbound at first I got flashes of that Brandon Roy shot. Deja vu ...sigh
