Good lord almighty. Should be quite a show at the Staples Center tonight.

I liked Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's piece the best, by far.

Also, I wonder to what extent Sterling is in his right mind?

The NBA decision sets (to me) a crazy precedent, and one they simply could not ever maintain for their players (especially the stars). The trash talk alone could probably get the majority of players banned for life during a normal season, LOL. Or maybe they should admit they will set the punishment based the on the twittershpere reaction.

    The NBA: its' fannnnntastic!

EDIT: ^ if only that was Leroy Jenkins in the photo. So close. The NBA has totally gone all Leroy Jenkins on this matter.

"Hey, we all knew he was racist, but since it wasn't front and center we didn't really care. Chris Paul didn't care, Blake Griffin didn't care, Doc Rivers didn't care, Adam Silver didn't care, but now that its public, we're outraged."

From all I have been reading regarding Magics group already in line with a funding and purchase plan in just a day RIGHT after this news broke, I do find it somewhat odd and a coincidental that Magic (Involved directly in the tape) already had plans in place to buy it.

Forcing the guy to sell his team, all probably at some premeditated recordings orchestrated by Magic and the Guggenheim group, is an absolute abortion of justice.

Then you have the tape to begin with, with it seemingly being presented that Sterling had his conversation directed in order for him to start saying what he said.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if there was something like this going on in order to force him out and bring in others. The NBA knew about his issues for not only years, but DECADES and did nothing.

Look, I am not saying that Sterling is in the clear here, and that the punishment isn't just. I just don't think he should be forced to sell his team. Maybe transfer control over to a trust, or his company, or something else. But to forcefully sell it, to most likely Magics investment group?

    Seems fishy...

    Conspiracy theories start......NOW

This is going to get Messy. Uncle Scrooge is very litigious. He might start trading players for peanuts just to spite the NBA.

No, he does not realize that. If he did, it would mean he'd be advocating for big government to step in and dictate to the NBA who they are allowed to keep/reject as members of their organization.

I am curious as to their Constitution though. Silver was adamant that the NBA owners have an NBA Constitutional power to force Sterling to sell if voted on by 3/4 of the owners...I guess that'd be a requirement of 22 votes. Some here have said they know the NBA Constitution and that solution is not possible. I'm curious as to how this will play out.

Because this matter isn't being handled by a court of law (yet). The NBA is a private organization that is allowed to conduct an internal review of any employee or affiliate who it believes has not acted in the best interests of the league.

The NBA/MLB/NFL may be viewed as different.

My guess is that Silver gets the 75% vote, and Sterling dies before any lawsuit is decided.... but it would set the standard for future sports franchises.

Sadly, what was released is not the worst Sterling has said or done and it isn't even close to the worst thing a team owner has said.

Hell, sometime read about why an owner left DC for Minnesota, and renamed the team the "Twins".

To me, today is honestly exactly when the NBA entered the realm of wrestlemania.

The refereeing is already so bad and fishy, and now we have a real Vince McMahon who will be wandering around the arena waiting to get cracked by a player wielding a chair. It's almost that ridiculous.

The article was posted in here somewhere, and there was probably more that's not available to the public since its a private company, so I doubt that theyve seen that much.

As per Silver, the audio recordings were confirmed by Donald Sterling as the male person. The NBA used that information to quickly and severely punish him.

While the NBA can vote to remove the owner, Sterling will not go down with out a fight. And to be honest, that would be the worst thing for him and his future. Infact, he should just be smart and take his valuation for his brand, sell it and move on with his life. Reports indicate that the valuation for the Clippers are approx 1.1 billion USD or higher. Sterling has to understand that the NBA has the resources to be able to fight this contentious battle for a long time. Furthermore, he risks the chance at being able to hire a coach, attract free agents, and have issues with draft picks further destroying his brand and market value. As soon as the NBA owners vote on his status as member of the league of 30, the NBA and Adam Silver would take ownership of the organization(similar to New Orleans) till the sale takes place, and Sterling can do nothing about it. Sterlings only hope now is to convince other NBA owners that his actions were a mistake. Unfortunately for him, anyone that supports Sterling in this matter is asking for their own $hit storm and risk ruining their own fan base and product. This is why I expect a uninanimous vote from the BOG and NBA owners for the forced sale of the Clippers.

Hmm, so are there 8 owners in the league that Sterling has enough damning evidence on?

Trying to connect a few points here....

    1) 75% of the owners have to vote in favor of removing Sterling

    2) The only grounds for removal under the NBA's constitution are for interfering in the outcome of games, intentionally mismanaging the franchise, and one other item......can't remember.

So if the owners vote him out, but not based on a reason listed in the NBA's bylaws, can Sterling sue for wrongful termination?

Yeah, but as long as they are in a legal battle then the team is his and he is collecting revenue from a team he doesn't manage day to day anyway. He is banned regardless.

If the vote is not public then I won't be shocked to see him retain his team.

Quoting myself here......also, notice that Silver didn't give the specific reason for termination. He "left it to the lawyers".
