The way I see it, the Texans would have to get blown away by a trade offer to pass on taking the sure thing in Clowney. Unless someone goes crazy and throws 3 first rounders on the table, just take the pick and move on to the next round.

They could always trade their 2.1 pick back for a couple more picks.

I'm sure the Texans will be fielding trade offers well after the pick is made. Teams only get more desperate as the prospects fall off the board.

It would really be sweet if at the end of day one there is a guy who shockingly slips, and then we can field offers for the 2.1 pick overnight.

There is so Luck in this draft , it will be very interesting which of the QB's has a better career. It is mixed with several factors : scheme fit , coach , owner , team roster etc.

I think that's probably considerably more likely than trading the first pick.

Clowney could very well be the best player this year, but saying sure thing is a stretch due to work ethic. His own coach questioned this.

Trading the pick would be nice, but as long as we get Clowney/Mack + Top 5 QB prospect I'm good.

And mostly hit on our other picks too.

    Yes I want it all.

I'm on the same boat. Clowney + best available/highest ceiling QB at 2.1. Then best available player, any position, the rest of the way.

No he didn't, he said that his work ethic wasn't as good as Marcus Lattimore......because no one's is. The "work ethic" nonsense has been disproven so many times already it's not worth even going over again. Clowney is by far the surest bet for a future pro bowler in the entire class.

Spurrier called his work ethic "okay" in that same interview. HOFs tend to be both super talented AND have super work ethics. The tone of Steve's "okay" was not really okay.

Can agree with the bolded. Surest bet, but not a sure bet. Clowney can be good and still underachieve.

    Would you guys rather...

keep our picks and draft Clowney
    or
Mack with an extra 1st or 2nd rounder?

If they can get a top 5 pick this year, another 2nd rounder this year, and next year's first and 3rd rounder, I'd be fine with giving a team Clowney and settling for Mack. Pass rush would still be a problem, but he'd be a good enough OLB to make the team a bit better, especially when he's in coverage.

I would rather they draft an offensive player with the #1 pick or trade down. Plus we already have two OLB's on the team but have holes on the D-Line, at middle LB, and in the secondary.

And with Jeremiah Attaochu, D Ford, Trent Murphy, Trevor Reilly, Marcus Smith, etc in this draft... I'll take the field over Clowney and Mack.

I'd rather they draft (and keep) Manziel, and shock the league by trading up for Clowney or Mack.

    ;)

This consensus #1 pick talk is perfect for our situation....Whether someone wants Clowney or reaches for a QB, this is the environment/market where a team overpays...maybe not on the level of the Walker deal (close though), but don't be surprised if we do bring in a king's ransom. Have faith that BOB can get the QB later. I'll take the 3 -5 picks in rounds 1-3. All the right propaganda is coming out of the Texans along with the rumors like this one. THAT is the smart route. Clowney will not turn this franchise around by himself and it would be a shame if we don't play our cards right. I think we will.

EXPECT it to be that generous.
