This is a perfect opportunity for the Clips to play inspired to win a championship.

I have to agree 100% with this. The major thing that keeps going thru my head regarding this is... can they really boot him out for something he said in private in his own home? What are the limits on that if there are any?

Our basic human rights apply to all of us, not just those expressing the prevailing popular view... but do those rights apply here? That's is where I'm confused.

My hope would be that in the end he will give up his ownership, not because of NBA sanctions, but because his customers(the fans) have made it clear that they have no interest in doing business with him or anything he is a part of. That way freedom of expression and association would be the victor rather than the use of force.

Dude, I know that. However, McDonalds and all other companies are not an appropriate comparison. The NBA, MLB and NFL are not the same as those companies. And in the case of the NBA, they have a very specific clause (found in this thread) about ousting an owner. This doesn't meet those requirements. (failure to uphold contractual obligations basically, gambling, fixing games, etc. Nothing about racism or being a jerk)

It's his business associates who are doing so..because the fans, sponsors and the public have responded to this.

There's no force. This isn't the government coming in to take his possessions. He's afforded no Constitutional protections against the league that granted him franchise rights to begin with.

    1. This slippery slope argument is beyond dumb. The NBA Board of Governors has NEVER used this before and would only use this in the most extreme cases. As for the other cases Cuban listed like xenophobia or homophobia? Um, if someone makes terrible xenophobic or homophobic remarks it seems okay to exercise it there too...

    2. You don't have an absolute right to own an NBA franchise. When Sterling bought the team he agreed to the terms set by the NBA Board of Governors. If they want to remove his ability to participate in the NBA they can absolutely do that. This isn't the government taking action, this is a private entity deciding who they want to associate with. It will hold up in a court of law (in particular, the argument that Sterling's presence depresses profits for the other owners will be compelling).

What is the excuse to be made here? Remember that Sterling wasn't found guilty of those actions and was rewarded a lifetime award from the NAACP. Remember that. If it was every bought to CP3 about it this could have been bounced back to him.

Baron Davis didn't accuse Sterling of racism, all he said was that Sterling heckled him at games...and who knows the relationship between two of those players?

There is also the issue that those things happened years ago, even if CP3 knew about it years had passed. Maybe he changed, the NAACP certainly felt he was to be honored.

We really don't have any idea except for things that happened years ago and that he heckled his own players (something Jordan has done although not publicly.) so I think this whole outrage over the outrage thing is tiring.

People like Kareem that HAD a voice didn't say anything about this until now. So he can sit down and shut up as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. They should stand up and deal with derelict dads that don't raise their children for example.

Maybe you didn't see the press conference I watched. He specifically said he would immediately attempt to force Sterling to sell the team.

so much circle jerking going on within the media. the masturbatory rhetoric to self promote or get more tweets is what I find the most offensive.

Yes because the Dodgers got into a situation where they couldn't maintain their contractual obligations. I believe the Dodgers even failed to make payroll.

Lots of good discussion in this thread. Lots of rep forthcoming. Intelligent discussion (even among people disagreeing) without any poo flinging or name calling.
