i haven't read their by-laws, so i have no idea. can't comment either way.

but if this forces a sale, i'm great with it. i'd prefer he be away completely...in name and otherwise.

I don't think he has the power to. In fact, he even said he was going to do "everything in his power" to get him out.

It was posted earlier in this thread. Basically the nuclear option is available to force a sale if he violated his contractual obligations or operated the Clippers in an unethical manner. They'd never be able to make that stick based on these allegations.

Again, I'm not suggesting they're going to oust him "technically"...but I think they will make it so uncomfortable for him and let him know he's so unwelcome, that he will likely sell. We'll see.

That starts with, "yeah, you now own a team that you can't be affiliated with in any way and can't even walk into an NBA arena to see."

this would be impossible to force of course but what would be the full circle and justice is that the clippers are sold and whatever the final price is -- lets say its 1 billion -- that 12 million of the sale goes to Sterling (the price he paid to buy the clippers back in the early 80s) and the rest of the money from the sale gets distributed to various charities.

This way there would be no way for Sterling to profit from the NBA again and he gets back his initial investment

    It's on the owners now.

Will Mark Cuban make an ass of himself by not voting out Sterling? Lol.

Yeah I'm with you totally on that. Completely. That's a different ballgame than the league doing the vote to take the team away though.

People can and do change for the better. Sterling could somewhat redeem himself by doing a lot charity work on behalf of Latino and black communities, the same ones he has shunned for so long. If I were in his shoes, I would.

When you are that old and rich, legacy is the one thing that matter. OTOH, maybe not for him.

There's no "slippery slope". The owners are voting for his removal. If you are part of a club, and that's what NBA ownership is, and 3/4 of the members want you gone there is nothing to argue. The final power belongs to the owners.

He has done a lot of charity work for those communities already. In fact, he was supposed to receive an award from the NAACP either last weekend or this weekend before all of this broke.

It won't break my heart if they make that vote. Do it. Oust him. Tie him up in litigation. Communicate clearly to the fans and the players that the league, as a whole, is adversarial to him and to anyone who positions themselves this way.

Silver brings up a great point as to why this did not happen earlier..because he wasn't found guilty of it in both cases. Sterling's racism was always a whisper. I hate people talking about "Fake" outrage. No one really knew about this unless you REALLY followed the NBA. Otherwise Sterling was just a cheap *** owner to you.

Also before people say "Shouldn't the players know?!" You'd be surprised that players don't watch and follow the NBA as much as you'd expect them to. You have to remember that they are forced to watch previous games and it's work for them and if they aren't watching that then they are playing on the court for a team. It's very likely that whatever off time they get they don't want to hear anything about the NBA. Remember Dwight in the off season took a vacation to get away from all of that stuff.

The owners vest their powers in a set of governing rules. Those rules don't give them the power to vote him out just because they don't want him. There are specific guidelines setup for the 3/4 vote and if they go that route without him getting on board there will be a nasty legal fight.

Will be a very interesting legal battle ...apparently Sterling loves court battles.

So Sterling needs 8 votes to save his bacon. Cuban seems like he is one. What do y'all think will happen?
